The Power Of Volunteering - Redefining Youth Leadership In Zanzibar :: By

=====

Abdulhamid Mzee , a social entrepreneur, opens with a challenge: After school, like many youths in Zanzibar, he faced the question, "What next?". He had no roadmap or clear direction, but he had a willingness to serve. Instead of waiting, he volunteered as an English teacher in 2014, a simple act that became his "eye opener". He quickly learned he didn't need a title to make an impact or be "someone important before I started doing important things". This journey of service not only earned him a Youth Leadership Honor Award in 2024, handed over by the President of Zanzibar, but also proved his core message: "Leadership does not begin when someone gives you a title. It actually begins the moment you decide to serve".

Ali's Code - Flipping The Script On Genomic Research In Africa :: By

'''Part 2'''

=====

Meet Ali Kimara, a 13-year-old boy in Tanzania who loves football and PlayStation, but suffers from a rare, undiagnosed neuromuscular condition that also claimed his sister, Nasrin. His story highlights a global injustice: while scientists spent billions on the Human Genome Project, the data predominantly represented European populations, leaving African ancestry severely underrepresented. This gap means children like Ali cannot get the right diagnosis or treatment. Driven by the despair of Ali's mother, Sharifa, Dr.Mohamed Zahir —who holds a PhD in medical genetics—joined forces with her to launch a national movement to address this crisis. They decided to "flip the script" on genomic research in Africa by advocating for rare diseases, training healthcare workers, and fighting the deep-seated stigma that forces parents to hide their children.

Sanaa Ni Dawa - Healing Through Art & Expressive Therapy :: By

=====

What if the answer to your deepest emotional pain isn't in a prescription, but in a paintbrush, a song, or a sketch? The speaker asks how many of us have carried heartbreak and burnout while "still kept smiling and showing up like everything was okay", feeling disconnected and "hollow inside". Nyanzula Nangale shares her own journey through a year of internal turmoil where nothing could ease her sorrows until a forgotten childhood drawing certificate led her to paint again in adulthood. She found that only art "spoke my soul's language". This realization spurred her to pursue studies in mental health, where she learned that art connects, inspires, and empowers those recovering from mental health conditions. With 7 million people in Tanzania alone living with mental health disorders, and 85% of Africans needing mental health care never receiving it, this revelation is vital.

The Letter Of Change : How Media Transforms The Community :: By

'''Part 2'''

=====

Jacqueline Lawrence when she was just 15 years old in a remote village in Mbeya the southern of Tanzanian, the speaker wrote a letter to the president about an impassable road, and its publication created a "momentum" that eventually led to the road being fixed. This experience taught her the incredible power of media. Today, she runs a media house, Highlands FM radio, that makes invisible stories visible, sharing community needs with organizations to create impactful change. She argues that media is not just an accessory for entertainment; it is the fundamental infrastructure for development. The most developed cities are the most connected. She points to a 14th-century African example: King Mansa Musa, whose use of messengers and scrolls to announce his pilgrimage created trade routes and transformed villages into the great cities of Gao, Timbuktu, and Cairo. Communication is so critical that failed policies are often "communication failure[s]" because the public cannot understand their advantages.

Redefining Opportunity For The Young African Generation :: By

'''Part 2'''

=====

Do you believe opportunities are only found "somewhere far away" or belong to people with the "right family names" and connections? The speaker, Ally Jape, used to think so, believing this mindset limited his potential. Despite graduating top of his intensive tourism training class, 15 companies never responded to his applications. He realized that success wouldn't come from waiting for validation or a title; it required breaking free from environments that "limit how much I can perform" and choosing to set his own standards.

The power of resilience from Zanzibar to the world by Khafsa Mohammed.

=====

In 2018, Khafsa Othman arrived in Zanzibar with a single suitcase and a heart split between hope and "total paralyzing panic". The future she saw wasn't an open horizon—it was "a wall". Today, she is a branch manager, an MBA graduate, a mentor, and a Mandela Washington Fellow of 2025. This is not a talk about a CV; it's the story of how she turned that terrifying wall into her personal horizon. Her journey wasn't about one big success, but a "daily, quiet, and connected practice" built on three transformative principles.
