LAUNCHING OF THE NATIONAL WOMEN ACCESS TO JUSTICE STRATEGY

THRDC is honoured to be part of the launch of the National Women’s Access to Justice Strategy (2025/26–2029/30) coordinated by the Ministry of Constitutional and Legal Affairs (MOCLA) in Dodoma on 21st and 22nd May 2026. This participation reflects the long-standing collaboration between THRDC and the Ministry in promoting human rights, legal reforms, strengthening access to justice mechanisms, and advancing protection systems in improving the civic space for women and vulnerable groups in Tanzania. THRDC was represented by Ms. Eva Mwambungu – Protection Planning and Risk Management Officer.

The Strategy aims at strengthening and promote justice system that is fair, inclusive and responsive to the unique needs and
circumstances of women and girls through legal education, capacity strengthening of justice
institutions and improvements of the legal framework with a vision to see a society, in which women and girls fairly and timely access justice.

This initiative comes at a crucial time due to the long standing challenges facing women and girls in accessing justice, including gender based violence, discriminatory cultural practices, financial barriers, fear of reprisals, digital attacks, delayed justice systems, and limited awareness of legal rights and referral mechanisms.

THRDC has always been championing women’s rights and access to justice as one of its primary thematic areas, demonstrating long term commitment to protecting the rights, dignity, safety, and empowerment of women and girls across Tanzania.

This commitment has been implemented through provision of legal aid and legal representation services, strategic litigation, psychosocial support, emergency response mechanisms, human rights monitoring and documentation, legal literacy and digital safety initiatives for women journalists and women human rights defenders, strengthening GBV reporting pathways, capacity building for women HRDs and CSOs, and expanding grassroots justice intervention its 11 zonal coordinating units across Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar.
