Join us this year on the 20th September 2025! The Goat Races were first introduced to Tanzania in 2001.

The Goat Races has become one of Tanzania’s most iconic and beloved events, attracting over 2,500 attendees each year for a vibrant day of fun, racing, and entertainment! A few years ago in Uganda, some enterprising members of the business community were pondering on a unique way to raise money for charity. They hit on "Ascot with a Difference", born out of a pig race held in Zimbabwe in 1991 for

the 50th birthday of a well-known horse breeder, who had insufficient space in his garden to hold a fully-fledged horse race. Pigs were not practical in East Africa, but goats were in abundance and so the Ugandan Goat Races were born, modelled on a typical horse race with its own special twist. This quirky idea was launched in Tanzania, with the help of an energetic and dedicated committee, and the support of numerous sponsors and suppliers.
