As we mark the launch of the Tanzania National Business Development Guideline today in Dar es Salaam, we are honored to be joined by government officials and various stakeholders to witness this significant milestone in the country’s business development journey.

We believe this Guideline represents a transformative step toward establishing coordinated and standardized Business Development Services (BDS) across Tanzania. It lays a strong foundation for improving service delivery, enhancing support for SMEs, and driving inclusive economic growth.

MEDA is proud to be part of this collaborative effort. We remain committed to working closely with the National Economic Empowerment Council (NEEC) and other key stakeholders to shape and revolutionize the landscape of business development services in Tanzania — ensuring they are impactful, sustainable, and tailored to the needs of our entrepreneurs.

The Gender in Finance Forum is an initiative under the Mennonite Economic Development Associates (MEDA) TZ’s Feminist Entrepreneurs Growing Green Economies (FEGGE) Project, in partnership with the Governments of Canada and Tanzania through the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MIT)

The Forum, organized by MEDA TZ and Supivaa, in collaboration with National Economic Empowerment Council (NEEC)and Tanzania Bankers Association (TBA), will bring together finance professionals, policymakers, and ecosystem players to explore how Tanzania can become a leading example in Gender-Lens Investing.

The financial services sector is evolving, and gender equity is now an economic imperative. In 2014, assets under management for Gender Lens Investing (GLI) stood at just under USD 500 million. A decade later, that figure has surged to USD 34 billion, according to 2X Global. Financial institutions embracing GLI are unlocking new markets, driving profitability, and strengthening ecosystems.

Tanzania is poised to lead in gender equity across Africa. With female labor participation at 80%—one of the highest in Africa—women own 54% of all MSMEs. however, they face significant barriers to formal financing. The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, (MSMEs) women’s finance gap in Tanzania is estimated at 4% of GDP, representing a market opportunity of TZS 3.9 trillion (USD 1.7 billion).

The FEGGE project, led by MEDA in partnership with the Government of Canada, is fostering an inclusive business environment for women entrepreneurs. As an implementing partner, Supivaa has been supporting six financial institutions in embedding gender-intentional strategies.

At the Gender in Finance Forum, we will showcase how leading financial service providers are turning insights into action. The event will highlight success stories, demonstrate the business case for GLI, and bring together industry leaders to drive systemic change.

Join us in shaping a more gender-responsive financial sector—where women entrepreneurs thrive, and financial institutions unlock their full potential.
