Prioritizing Well-being for Stronger Advocacy

Last Saturday, we conducted a staff well-being and psychosocial support session as part of our commitment to strengthening organizational resilience, protection mechanisms, and sustainability.

The session provided an opportunity for staff to reflect, connect, and learn practical strategies for stress management, self-care, and burnout prevention.

Working in advocacy and community service often requires significant emotional investment, making well-being an essential component of effective and sustainable impact.

By creating spaces that promote mental wellness, peer support, and resilience, we are investing in the people who drive our mission forward. Strong teams are better equipped to advocate, innovate, and serve communities affected by epilepsy and other neurological and developmental disorders.

We remain committed to fostering a healthy, supportive, and resilient work environment that enables our team to continue making a meaningful difference.

Last Friday we had the honor of participating in the signing ceremony of a partnership between UNDP Tanzania and nine higher learning institutions to strengthen youth employability, innovation, and skills development.

This initiative aligns with our vision of a future where young people with epilepsy have equal opportunities to develop their skills, pursue meaningful careers, and contribute to society.

Too many young people with epilepsy continue to face barriers to employment. Seeing national stakeholders invest in youth development and inclusion gives us hope that we are moving in the right direction.

True progress means ensuring that no young person is left behind.

On May , we attended an important discussion on unpaid care work and gender-based violence in Tanzania. This was part of the National Symposium on Unpaid Care Work, Disability Inclusion, and Gender-Transformative Approaches, convened by the United Nations Population Fund in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme and UN Women.

The symposium brought together government leaders, development partners, civil society, academia, youth advocates, journalists, and Organizations of Persons with Disabilities to advance inclusive care systems in Tanzania.
Care work is often invisible, unpaid, emotionally exhausting, and carried mostly by women and girls β€” especially mothers of children and persons with disabilities.

Care work sustains families and communities, yet it remains undervalued despite being essential to our societies and economies.

Caregiving is love, yes. But it is also work. 🀍

We need more advocacy, inclusive policies, mental wellness support, and recognition for caregivers. Together, through mothers’ forums and community conversations, we can make the invisible visible.

At TEO, we empower young people with epilepsy through programs that build confidence, leadership, skills, and inclusion.

Today, we are proud to spotlight one of our champions as she shares her purpose and journey. Her story is a reminder that epilepsy does not define a person's potential. With the right support and opportunities, young people with epilepsy can lead, inspire, and create meaningful change in their communities.

Together, we are building a future where every young person with epilepsy can thrive.
