From the quarries of Singida to the sands of Morogoro, Tanzania’s artisanal and small-scale miners are building more than structures - they’re building futures.
🔹 6+ million Tanzanians rely on ASM
🔹 30% of all ASM output comes from Development Minerals
🔹 26% mine salt & building materials
🔹 66% are youth aged 18–35
With support from the ACP-EU Development Minerals Programme, miners are gaining skills, safety training & business tools to mine better - and live better.

Yesterday, UNDP under the UN Zanzibar Joint Programme (Climate and Adaptation Pillar), together with the Zanzibar Disaster Management Commission and with support from the Government of Norway, concluded a two-day Capacity Building Programme on Climate and Disaster Risk Financing for Training of Trainers.

Twenty participants gained hands-on skills to anticipate and manage climate- and disaster-related financial risks—helping build stronger institutions, empowered communities, and sustainable financing mechanisms across Zanzibar.

A strong step toward a more financially resilient and climate-adaptive Zanzibar. 🌍✨

Today, we join the global community in marking the International Day for the Prevention of Violent Extremism — a reminder that peace must be protected at every level: in our homes, our communities, and increasingly, in our digital spaces.
Here in Tanzania, UNDP is doing its part through the Dumisha Amani Project – Promoting Peace and Security for Sustainable Development.
From strengthening local conflict‑resolution systems to empowering youth with digital literacy and training community peace champions, the project is building resilience where it matters most.
This year’s theme, “Preventing Violent Extremism in the Age of New and Emerging Technologies,” highlights a growing truth: extremists exploit digital platforms, but so can we — to unite, educate, and uplift.
Together, we can create a Tanzania where every community thrives in peace.

Did you know Zanzibar’s tourism sector used to rely on surveys conducted just once a year?
That left a "364-day information gap" for decision-makers. 📉

Yesterday, UNDP, in partnership with the Second Vice President’s Office (SVPO), Vocational Training Authority (VTA), Centre for Youth Dialogue (CYD), and the Zanzibar Youth Council, officially opened the Youth Vocational Training in Zanzibar.

The 12-day programme, implemented in Zanzibar and Pemba, comprises 11 days of vocational and peacebuilding training, followed by a graduation on Day 12. The training aims to equip young people with practical, market-relevant skills, while strengthening their understanding of peacebuilding, social cohesion, and non-violent conflict resolution, enhancing employability and community stability.

Opening remarks were delivered by Ms. Siajabu Pandu, Director of Coordination of Government Affairs, Second Vice President’s Office (SVPO), with contributions from VTA and the Zanzibar Youth Council. UNDP emphasized that investing in youth skills alongside peacebuilding is a critical pathway to sustainable development.

The Dumisha Amani II project strengthens peacebuilding systems, enhances community resilience, and promotes inclusive, youth-led development across mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar.
Supported by the United Nations Peace and Development Trust Fund (UNPDF) and implemented by UNDP in partnership with the Government of Zanzibar.
