The relationship between WASH and climate change is critical, as both infrastructure and community practices are highly sensitive to climate variability. Extreme weather events such as floods can damage WASH systems, while droughts reduce water availability, and rising temperatures influence water demand and the spread of disease vectors. Changes in rainfall patterns may either increase or decrease water supply, directly affecting community needs. Low rainfall often leads to the drying up of water sources, while floods, storms, and droughts can disrupt services, contaminate water supplies, and damage sanitation facilities. Such impacts increase the risk of exposure to pathogens, heightening the likelihood of disease outbreaks when access to safe water and adequate sanitation is compromised.
