Pearl of People with Down Syndrome Foundation - Tanzania Mainland An INCLUSIVE society where people with Down Syndrome's basic human rights and needs are met and sustained to improve their livelihood.

Pearl of People with Down Syndrome will endeavour in:

• Creating awareness of what Down Syndrome is to the general public. In Africa, it is often seen as a myth or a curse, such that such children are hidden in homes if they survive, or killed as infants.

• Advising health authorities to perform early diagnosis of children born with Down Syndrome and to offer counselling to families.

• Advisin

g education authorities on the limit of what the Down Syndrome children can learn and provide individualised education plans (IEP). In most cases, children with Down Syndrome are not registered in mainstream schools as they are thought of as being incapable to learn. And if they are in schools, they are expected to do normal exams as the so called ‘normal’ children; something they cannot.

• Advising Government authorities and institutions/companies to employ people with Down Syndrome on the jobs which they can do.
