Today is World AIDS Day, and we celebrated in our usual way – free HIV testing for all, health education, and of course, dancing and games.
World AIDS Day holds a special place in our hearts because it acknowledges and places importance on the fight against HIV/AIDS. A fight we are very proud to be a part of.
It also gives us a moment to hold the people we have lost. The people who were taken too soon because of this disease, and the people who are still fighting today. In particular, the community heroes who have tirelessly given their lives to help others living with HIV while also experiencing the same struggles.
This year, the theme of World AIDS Day is “Overcoming disruption, transforming the AIDS response.” This theme acknowledges the disruption in international funding for HIV/AIDS, the resilience of the communities trying to fill the gap, and the importance of moving forward step by step.
And we are.
We are still here bringing free HIV testing, treatment, and health education to rural, high-risk communities in Babati.
And the communities we serve are here too. People are still stepping up to support the HIV/AIDS response in so many different ways.
Let’s work together to transform our AIDS response.
Tuko pamoja.
