Did you know? 🌟

We support two wonderful partner projects that offer regular therapy sessions for children. One of them is Miles of Smile Daycare Miles of smile daycare .

Director Issaya ensures that children with additional needs receive care from a qualified physiotherapist, supported by our dedicated volunteers during therapy sessions. In Tanzania, disabilities are still highly stigmatized, making it especially important for families to feel seen, heard, and supported and for every child to receive the care they deserve. 💛

Miles of Smile has been one of our long-standing partners, and we’re excited to see what the future holds for this special project and the people who make it possible!

It’s finally time to introduce our wheelchair-accessible room at STEP Africa Village! ♿️🌿

Traveling and volunteering in Tanzania with a wheelchair takes courage and planning, but it’s absolutely possible! We warmly welcome volunteers and visitors with additional needs and are always happy to offer advice and help to bring your travel plans to life. ☀️

What the room offers:

• Step-free ramp straight to the room
• Extra-wide doors and generous turning space
• Wheelchair-friendly bathroom and everything at wheelchair level
• Beautiful garden view 🌺
• The main pathways at STEP Africa Village are paved and wheelchair-accessible.

The room is perfect for solo traveling volunteers or two people sharing the double bed. As an example: Our volunteer Felix arrived in June and stayed in the accessible room; he recently left after two impactful months in Arusha. ✨

🎥 Volunteer Story – Part 3

In the final part of our interview series, Natalia reflects on her time in Tanzania, the memories she takes home with her, and, most importantly, the special connections she built with fellow volunteers along the way. ❤️

The friendships, shared experiences, and sense of community are parts of each volunteering journey - and Natalia’s story is a beautiful example of that.

Her journey is a wonderful reminder that volunteering is for everyone - regardless of age. All it takes is curiosity, openness, and a willingness to embrace new experiences. 🌍✨

Thank you, Natalia, for being such an inspiring member of our community. ❤️

✨ Wondering what your first few days in Tanzania will be like? 🇹🇿

After your arrival, you'll have some time to relax, settle in, and recover from your journey. Since most of our volunteers arrive on a Thursday, Orientation Day usually takes place on Friday - the perfect start to your volunteering experience!

We'll begin with an orientation briefing where we'll introduce you to our team and cover everything you need to know before starting your project. From cultural insights and house rules to responsible volunteering and life in Tanzania, you'll leave feeling informed, prepared, and excited for the weeks ahead.

Next, you'll have your very first Swahili lesson. You'll quickly learn a few useful phrases and be ready to greet the locals with a cheerful "Mambo!" 😊

Then it's time to explore Arusha! Together, we'll hop on a daladala - Tanzania's local minibus - and show you around the city. You'll learn how to use public transport and visit all the places you'll need during your stay, including ATMs, supermarkets, the famous Maasai Market for souvenirs, and a local tailor where you can later have your own Tanzanian outfit custom-made.

For lunch, we'll stop at one of our favorite local restaurants, where you can enjoy delicious food while admiring artwork created by talented local artists. It's a place you'll definitely want to visit again!

Before heading back to the hostel, we'll make one last stop at the supermarket so you can stock up on everything you need for the weekend.

The rest of the afternoon is yours to enjoy. Get to know your fellow volunteers, have dinner together, play games, or simply relax in our beautiful green garden. 🌿

With the weekend ahead, you'll have plenty of time to explore Arusha, settle into your new surroundings, and ease into life in Tanzania before your project begins on Monday.

We can't wait to welcome you and share this incredible experience with you. See you soon! 🧡

🎥 Volunteer Story – Part 2

In this second part of our interview, Natalia gives us a glimpse into daily life as a volunteer at STEP Africa. ❤️

She talks about how a typical day looked like, about life at the STEP Africa Village, and the free-time activities that made her stay in Tanzania so memorable.

Volunteering is about so much more than contributing to a project - it’s about experiencing a new culture, building friendships, and creating memories that last a lifetime.

And as Natalia’s story beautifully shows, there is no age limit to becoming part of an amazing community. 🌿✨

Stay tuned for Part 3 🥰

Hi everyone! 👋

My name is Naboths. My nickname is MKUST. 😊

I’m part of the Volunteer Support Team at STEP Africa. My role is to welcome our volunteers, help them settle in, spend time with them, and make sure they have an unforgettable experience during their stay in Tanzania. 🇹🇿

What I enjoy most about my job is connecting with our volunteers and being there whenever they need support. Whether I can help them myself or connect them with someone who can, I’m always happy to lend a hand. Making people feel welcome and supported is one of the best parts of what I do. 🧡

When I’m not at work, I enjoy watching football, playing games, spending time with friends, keeping up with fashion, and listening to hip-hop music. 🎧⚽️

If I had to describe myself, I’d say I’m a quiet and easy-going person. I’m not very talkative and usually prefer listening rather than speaking. 😊

One fun fact about me: if you’ve got a good joke, I’m always happy to hear it! 😄 I love a good laugh because I believe laughter makes every day a little better.

I’m looking forward to meeting you at STEP Africa! 🌍🤝
