Today we’d love to introduce you to a very special project close to our hearts: Mbwa Wa Africa Animal Rescue and Clinic 🐾❤️

At the moment, it is the only animal welfare project we are collaborating with — and we couldn’t be more grateful for the incredible work they do every single day.

In this video, Jaqui from the shelter shares the inspiring story behind the creation and development of the rescue center ✨

The shelter is home to more than 120 dogs 🐶 and over 30 cats 🐱, giving them safety, care, and a second chance at life. But it’s so much more than “just” a shelter: it also includes a veterinary clinic with dedicated vets and organizes important community initiatives such as rabies vaccination campaigns 💉

And this is where YOU can make a difference 💛
Volunteers are always more than welcome and are such an important support for the team. There is always love to give and little paws waiting for cuddles 🥹 Whether it’s taking the dogs for long walks, spending time with the cats, helping around the shelter, or simply sharing affection and care — every helping hand means the world.

The dogs and cats are always happy about cuddles, walks, attention, and love — and we promise: everyone who spends time at the shelter leaves with their heart completely stolen by the animals 😍🐕🐈

We would absolutely love to see more people supporting this beautiful project ❤️

Stay tuned for more updates and insights about the shelter and its daily life at the rescue center 🐾

Let’s continue with our team introductions 🧡

Today, it’s all about our loving and caring house mamas: Emi, Zakhia, Cecilia, Grace, and Beatrice ✨

These amazing women are truly the heart of our STEP Africa Village 🏡
They prepare incredibly delicious meals for you - from Monday to Friday, serving both breakfast and dinner 🍳🍲
The menu is a wonderful mix of traditional Tanzanian dishes and European influences, so there’s always something for everyone 🌍💫
And of course, they’re always happy to accommodate any food allergies or special requests 🥰

But they do so much more than cooking: our house mamas also take care of cleaning the volunteer rooms and dorms 🧼🛏️
They make sure that not only your stomach is full, but that you always feel comfortable, safe, and at home 🧡

They love connecting with you - whether it’s chatting together, showing you how to cook local dishes, or even helping you with your laundry 🧺😊

We are so grateful to have them as part of our family 🧡

Today we’d like to give you an insight into an amazing volunteers‘ initiative at Neemah Secondary School 💛✨

In course of that we’d love to give the opportunity to our volunteer Mary to share it in her own words:

“Neemah School welcomes more than 200 teenagers, offering them a safe space that their families often cannot provide and a different vision for their future. It is a private school that depends on donations to continue operating. ✨

The school is in need of renovations 🔧 - but above all, the priority is to feed the children four times a day, seven days a week. 🍽️

Anniek and I were deeply touched by the situation of these children. That’s why we started this project to repaint the school’s facade. 🎨

With the support of Step Africa volunteers - through donations and manpower - we (Franzi, Michelle, Marlena, Paula, Hannah, Anniek, Ozge, Natalia, Kiera, Ramona, Sofia and me) were able to repaint four walls on Friday, May 1st, and provide enough food for about a month.

There is still a lot to do.
But together, we are stronger. 🤝

Step by step, we can build a better future. 🌱✨”

ASANTE SANA to all of you for your dedication 🙏💛

1st May – Happy International Workers’ Day! 🌍💪

We wish our entire STEP Africa team a Happy Workers’ Day! Thank you for your dedication, passion, and hard work every single day. Your commitment is the heart of everything we do, and we truly appreciate each and every one of you. 🙏❤️

Today, we also want to put a special spotlight on the incredible workers who are currently building the new facilities at STEP Africa Village. Your effort, precision, and dedication are helping turn this vision into reality, and we are deeply grateful for the work you do.

At the moment, we are building 2 shared dorm rooms and 3 private rooms, which are planned to be completed by June/July. These new spaces will allow us to welcome more volunteers and continue growing our impact.

To everyone involved – on site and behind the scenes – thank you for being part of this journey and for making a real difference every day. 🌟💪

Just as a small note: no worries – the construction areas are safely separated from where our current volunteers are staying, and work is only taking place during weekdays to ensure a comfortable environment for everyone.

Today we’re continuing our team introductions by getting to know the people who keep you safe and make sure everything in the STEP village runs smoothly and stays in good shape 🔧✨

Meet our maintenance and security team: Ahmed, our Maintenance Coordinator, our night guard Venance, and our watchmen & gardeners Amani and Elisha 👋✨

Ahmed is the go-to person for everything related to maintenance in the STEP Village. If something is broken, needs fixing, or if anything else comes up around the village, he’s the one making sure it gets sorted quickly and efficiently 🔧✨

Venance takes care of things at night, keeping you safe & secure and making sure everything is in order 🌙🗝️

Amani and Elisha are always around during the day. They ensure your stay is safe during daylight hours, tend to the gardens and help out wherever needed. They also look after our hostel dogs, Scooby and Molly, feeding them and taking them on walks 🐶❤️

Thanks to all of them, your stay at STEP Africa is safe, smooth, and full of care 🤝✨

🇹🇿 Happy Tanzania Union Day! 🇹🇿

Today we celebrate the unity that was officially formed on April 26, 1964, when Tanganyika and Zanzibar joined to create modern Tanzania.

The flag waves proudly – a symbol of togetherness, peace, and diversity. 🌍💚💛💙

May the spirit of the Union inspire us all to be stronger together. ✨

We’d love to start introducing you to our team – beginning with the very first people you’ll meet when arriving in Tanzania ✈️🌍

These are our drivers Yasin, Erick & Kelvin 🚕✨

One of them will be there to welcome you at the airport and take you directly to your STEP Africa accommodation 🏡💛 From the moment you land, you can relax knowing you’re in safe and reliable hands.

Yasin is our main driver and takes care of most transfers, making sure every journey is smooth and comfortable 🛣️
Erick is not only a driver but also a passionate tour guide – he organizes most of the experiences you can book with STEP Africa and often leads them himself 🌿🗺️
Kelvin also supports as a driver and is a guide on several of our tours, including the Moshi Tour 🌄

They’re not just drivers – they’re the start of your adventure in Tanzania 🤝✨

At STEP Africa, we believe that real impact begins with the right mindset. 🧡💭🌍

Volunteering in Tanzania is not just about good intentions — it’s about respect, empathy, and the willingness to truly understand. We encourage our volunteers to embrace new cultures, adapt to different living conditions, and approach every experience with patience, openness, and humility. Because meaningful change takes time — and starts with listening.

Our work is guided by one core principle: education and knowledge are the key to sustainable change. Instead of short-term solutions, we focus on capacity building, community involvement, and long-term development. We work with communities, not for them — empowering individuals with skills and knowledge that last far beyond a volunteer’s stay. 📚🌱

A core value of ours is strengthening families and communities. We do not work with orphanages, as we believe that children belong in safe, supportive family environments. Our focus is on creating conditions that allow families to stay together and thrive. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦🏡

We also believe in the power of intercultural exchange. When people from different backgrounds come together, true learning happens on both sides. Volunteers don’t just share their knowledge — they gain new perspectives, build genuine connections, and become part of something bigger. 🌏🫱🏽‍🫲🏾

STEP Africa stands for sustainability, empowerment, and collaboration. We are not here to “save” — we are here to learn, to support, and to grow together. 🫶🏽🌱✨
