Mviwaarusha Mtandao wa Vikundi vya Wakulima na Wafugaji Mkoa wa Arusha (MVIWAARUSHA) The objectives of MVIWAARUSHA include:

Strengthening farmersโ€™ groups.

Mtandao wa Vikundi vya Wakulima na Wafugaji Mkoa wa Arusha, abbreviated as MVIWAARUSHA, is a regional network organization in Arusha region, catering for six District Councils namely Meru DC, Aruusha DC, Karatu DC, Longido DC, Ngorongoro DC and Monduli DC. The Regional Network was born out of a District Network MVIWAMO, which in spite of focusing on the Monduli DC and Longido DC, it had been instrumental in mobilizing the formation of MVIWAARUSHA networks in Karatu DC, Arumeru East (Meru DC) and Arumeru West (Arusha DC). In 2012, MVIWAMO with the other District Networks managed to form MVIWAARUSHA โ€“ an umbrella network of farmer groups in Arusha region. The main purpose of the network is to improve communication amongst farmers' groups in order to enhance the participation of small-scale farmers in planning, implementation/ supervision of social, economic and understanding of political processes. Mobilization of farmersโ€™ groups to form and/or join farmersโ€™ networks. Facilitation of communication between MVIWAARUSHA, district networks, local networks, farmersโ€™ groups various institutions and other relevant organizations. Bringing about changes of ideas and knowledge, skills and experience on farming and livestock keeping activities.

We are delighted with the progress made by the residents of Arkatan Village in Monduli District, where we continue to support the reseeding of grasses to restore and improve pasturelands.

We believe pastoralist communities will continue to embrace this important restoration initiative, creating healthier landscapes for the future of both their communities and livestock.

A special appreciation goes to our staff member, Enezael Nnko, for championing this movement, with the valued support of Justdiggit.

Together, we can restore our rangelands, strengthen pastoral livelihoods, and build a greener future.

Arkatan must be green and smiling!

Yesterday, we successfully continued the field verification exercise with two institutionsโ€”Lareto Cooperative Society and TNRFโ€”as well as one community group, Naretisho in Olarash, Monduli.

The exercise continues today with visits to three additional institutions in the Mto wa Mbu area of Monduli, as part of the AFR100 project, supported by FAO. The activity also aims to directly empower community groups through the Direct Beneficiary Grant (DBG) mechanism.

We sincerely appreciate the dedication of our staff member Godwin Sebastian, who is working alongside the FAO team, led by the National Facilitator, Mr. Godfrey Bakanga, throughout this important field exercise.

Our staff member, Daudi Magile, participated in the FFF GIS & Database Validation, Capacity Building and Finalization Workshop held in Morogoro, bringing together FFF partner Member-Based Organizations (MBOs), including MVIWAARUSHA, MVIWAMA, TTGAU, MJUMITA, MAYAWA, and MVIWAMORO.

The three-day workshop focused on strengthening practical skills in GIS and QGIS, validating and improving landscape-level geodatabases, finalizing Story Maps, and establishing practical systems for maintaining and updating spatial information.

These skills are essential for better documenting conservation and forest and farm landscape activities, tracking progress, and supporting evidence-based planning and decision-making.

The workshop is part of the Forest and Farm Facility (FFF) Programme, supported by Trias Tanzania, with technical sessions led by the GIS team and active participation from partner MBOs.

Today, we conducted a roundtable discussion on Financial Inclusion in Karatu District, coordinated by WE-EFFECT through FAO, at Omega View Hotel in Karatu District.

The discussion brought together representatives from three financial institutions: Tanzania Investment Bank (TIB), NMB Bank, and CRDB Bank, along with seven representatives from MVIWAARUSHA. Among them were five leaders of MVIWAKA SACCOS and two Trainers of Trainers (TOTs) from Community Microfinance Groups (CMGs).

The discussions focused on financial services offered by the three banks that are accessible and suitable for CMGs and SACCOS. Key areas included access to loans, group savings accounts, insurance services, and other financial products and systems that can directly reach groups and individual members within CMGs and SACCOS.

The discussions aim to strengthen linkages between financial institutions and farmer groups, enabling members to access appropriate financial services and opportunities that can support their economic activities and livelihoods.

The discussions will continue in Monduli District, specifically in Mto wa Mbu, followed by a two-day workshop in Manyara from 1โ€“2 October, in collaboration with the Manyara Farmers Groups Network (MVIWAMA).

At MVIWAARUSHA, we donโ€™t just organize and mobilize members; we work to see farmers thrive, improve their livelihoods, and turn opportunities into meaningful change in their lives.

We conducted a chicken husbandry training for MVIWAARUSHA members from three local networks: MVIWATE, MVIWAKALE, and MVIWAAKE. The training was facilitated by Mr. Eliud Letungaa, who equipped farmers with practical knowledge on key areas of poultry production, including nutrition, feed formulation, disease management, record keeping, and marketing.

The training aimed to strengthen farmersโ€™ knowledge and skills, enabling them to improve their daily poultry activities, increase productivity, and make their enterprises more beneficial and sustainable.

At MVIWAARUSHA, we are proud to see our farmers becoming more knowledgeable, capable, and confident as they work to build better livelihoods every day.

For us, restoration work is not just about digging and establishing half-moon bunds; it is about taking action, responding to challenges, and adapting our approach to ensure that restoration efforts deliver lasting results.

At Arkatan Village, we dug, planted seedlings, and implemented various measures to restore the degraded land. However, due to challenging climatic conditions, the seedlings did not survive as expected.

Today, we have reseeded grass in the area to give our restoration efforts another opportunity to thrive. We are committed to doing this work with love, dedication, and passionโ€”to regreen the earth, restore our landscapes, and put a smile on the faces of local residents.

Thank you, JUSTDIGGIT, for making this initiative possible. We will not get tired. We will keep restoring, learning, and taking action until we see our land green again.

At MVIWAARUSHA, our local networks play a vital role in building a strong and united voice for farmers and pastoralists across the region. Through regular meetings, members discuss issues affecting farmers, share ideas, and take action to strengthen our organization.

At the MVIWAMBAASH Local Network in Selela Village, Monduli District, members held another meeting to discuss important matters and strengthen their network.

Indeed, this is a true reflection of the spirit of unity, participation, and collective action within MVIWAARUSHA.

Unity makes us stronger, and together we can achieve more.

At MVIWAARUSHA, local networks play an important role in strengthening the voice of farmers and pastoralists across the region. Through local meetings, members discuss key issues, share ideas, and agree on actions that strengthen the organization and advance farmersโ€™ interests.

Yesterday, the Kikatiti Local Network in Meru District held a meeting to discuss important matters and identify ways to build and strengthen the organization.
