In our conversation with Accountability Champions, and Michael Julius Emilio, in Burundi, we explored “From Tokenism to True Influence: Rethinking Youth Policy.”

Are young people genuinely shaping the policies that affect them, or are they simply being invited to the table?

This week, with support from AU-EU Youth Voices Lab - Power of the Collective we’re in Tanzania for the East African regional consultations on the African Youth Charter.

Taking place on 15 October at Youth Hub Arusha MS TCDC, the consultation will bring together young people and stakeholders to reflect on two decades of the African Youth Charter, assess progress in its implementation, identify existing gaps, and shape recommendations for the future of youth rights and participation across Africa.

As we reflect on the Charter’s journey, we are asking what has changed, what remains unfinished, and what must happen next to turn its commitments into meaningful action for young people.

A lot of youth are interested in agriculture. They’re just not interested in the primary level, and that is because, as Africa, we have not yet adopted modern forms of farming.

When you think about agriculture, it’s normally a hoe or, at best, driving a tractor. But as AGRA, through generation_.africa, we have been working to change that narrative by showing young people that agriculture is much bigger than production.

The AfCFTA that we have been privileged to champion for the last five years is a special opportunity for Africa, particularly for young people.

It gives us an opportunity to break down borders, expand markets and create meaningful opportunities for young Africans to trade across the continent.
