Meru Animal Welfare Organization (MAWO) is a nonprofit animal-welfare organization working in Northern Tanzania. In 2010 MAWO undertook an initial baseline survey of the ten villages in the district to enhance the current animal welfare status in the area. The aim of this survey was to provide an empirical foundation for MAWO and to make strategic decisions involving the allocation of project reso

urces and the design of the project components. The organization was established in order to address the five freedoms of the animals, of which most farmers in the area are not aware:
1. Freedom from discomfort
3. Freedom from pain, injury and disease
4. Freedom from fear and distress
5. Freedom to express normal behavior

The organization operates mainly in Northern Tanzania in order to bring a lasting impact to the area before moving to other areas in Tanzania. The Headquarters are in USA River , Meru District, Arusha Region.

What an incredible and impactful week!

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Global Protagonists and all the amazing volunteers who dedicated their time, compassion, and hard work to improving animal welfare and supporting local communities.

Together, we accomplished:
🐴 Trained 20 women as Donkey Champions, empowering them to become advocates for better donkey welfare in their communities.
🐶 Vaccinated and treated 80 dogs.
🐴 Treated and dewormed 220 donkeys.
🐱 Vaccinated 10 cats.
🐝 Donated 10 beehive fences to help promote human-wildlife coexistence while supporting sustainable livelihoods through beekeeping.

These achievements reflect the incredible impact that can be made when we work together. Every animal treated, every person empowered, and every beehive fence installed contributes to healthier communities and a brighter future for both people and animals.

We are excited to announce a free dog and donkey clinic in collaboration with Global Protagonists, Simanjiro District Council, and Meru Animal Welfare Organization (MAWO).

📍 Location: Simanjiro – Lengasiti na Terati
📅 Date: 28th July – 1st August

We will provide free rabies vaccination and deworming for dogs and donkeys.

🐶 A vaccinated dog helps protect your children, family, and community against rabies. Together, we can work towards a Rabies-Free Tanzania by 2030! 🇹🇿
