Umoja Tanzania

Umoja Tanzania A youth development organisation, focusing on education and life skills for disadvantaged young people in Arusha, Northern Tanzania.

Umoja is a youth development organisation located in the city of Arusha, Northern Tanzania, East Africa. We administer a free holistic educational and support programme specifically designed for disadvantaged young adults who have fallen out of the formal education system. The programme consists of a Foundation Year during which students are instructed in English, IT and Life Skills. They are also

given access to information and resources which help them to care for their physical and emotional wellbeing. Once they have successfully completed the Foundation Year, students become part of the Outplacement Scheme whereby they are placed into the mainstream education system or vocational training. Umoja then supports its students through job applications into new careers which will allow them to provide effectively for themselves and their families. Umoja is partnered in Australia with Global Development Group. GDG (ABN 57 102 400 993), as an Australian DFAT approved NGO takes responsibility of the project according to DFAT rules – providing a governance role and assisting in the areas of planning, monitoring, evaluating and auditing to ensure the project is carried out to Australian requirements. PHOTOGRAPHY TRAINNING!

Umoja staff had a photography training session led by Benjamin, a volunteer from Australia who supports our Social Enterprise Programme through fundraising, marketing of our reusable sanitary pads, and staff capacity building.

During the session, Benjamin generously shared practical photography skills to help the team improve how we capture and present our work.

We are truly grateful for your inspiring support and meaningful contribution, Benjamin. Thank you so much!

HONGERA SANA, ELIKA. 👏
Elika joined Umoja in 2010 with a dream to help her parents and create change in her community. At that time, the future seemed uncertain, but she never gave up.

With the support of kind sponsors Steven from the UK, and Lisa & Tyler from Australia, Elika completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Project Planning and Management from the Institute of Rural Development Planning. Today, she is working as a Project Manager with an organization in the Morogoro Region, creating real impact in her community.

Her journey shows the life changing power of sponsorship. One opportunity can change everything, not only for one young person, but for an entire family and community.

Thank you, Steven, Lisa, and Tyler, for believing in Elika’s journey and making this success possible. 💛

You can help create the next success story. Sponsor a child at [email protected] or donate via the link below. 🙏

Yesterday, we had a wonderful parents’ meeting with parents, guardians, and our amazing youth in the ISC programme. Together, we discussed academic progress, social wellbeing, and the overall growth of our students.
We also spoke about the parent committee and the power of strong teamwork between parents, teachers, and Umoja staff in supporting our young people.

One of the highlights of the day was presenting awards to students who performed excellently and those who showed great improvement in their studies. We are so proud of their hard work, dedication, and success!

A big thank you to all parents and guardians for attending and for your continued cooperation and commitment. Together, we are empowering our youth with skills, knowledge, and brighter futures.

RAIN SHOULD NOT STOP EDUCATION!
🌧️💔 As the rainy season continues across Tanzania, many of our youth at Umoja Centre are walking to school through heavy rain with no protection. Wet clothes, cold feet, and muddy roads should never stand in the way of education.

We have 72 young people in need of raincoats and rain boots so they can reach school safely and with dignity.

One raincoat = $6 USD/£4 GBP/$8 AUD
One pair of rain boots = $6USD/£4 GBP
$8 AUD
