A youth development organisation, focusing on education and life skills for disadvantaged young people in Arusha, Northern Tanzania.

Umoja is a youth development organisation located in the city of Arusha, Northern Tanzania, East Africa. We administer a free holistic educational and support programme specifically designed for disadvantaged young adults who have fallen out of the formal education system. The programme consists of a Foundation Year during which students are instructed in English, IT and Life Skills. They are also given access to information and resources which help them to care for their physical and emotional wellbeing. Once they have successfully completed the Foundation Year, students become part of the Outplacement Scheme whereby they are placed into the mainstream education system or vocational training. Umoja then supports its students through job applications into new careers which will allow them to provide effectively for themselves and their families. Umoja is partnered in Australia with Global Development Group. GDG (ABN 57 102 400 993), as an Australian DFAT approved NGO takes responsibility of the project according to DFAT rules – providing a governance role and assisting in the areas of planning, monitoring, evaluating and auditing to ensure the project is carried out to Australian requirements. PROTECT UMOJA TANZANIA!
The Tanzania Meteorological Authority and the Government of Tanzania have issued warnings about expected heavy rainfall, storms, and possible flooding in several parts of the country, including Arusha.

Umoja Centre is a safe and supportive place where young people learn, develop life skills, play sports, and access counselling. Umoja Centre urgently needs repairs to its gutters and rainwater harvesting system to protect the buildings from water damage.

Without urgent repairs, heavy rain could damage classrooms, disrupt activities, and lead to costly structural problems.

Your support can help us complete these repairs before the rains arrive, keeping the centre safe and ready for the young people and community it serves.

Time is short! Please click the link below to donate and help protect Umoja Centre before the rains arrive.

SCHOOL VISITS
School visits help us follow our youth’s academic progress, offer advice, and encourage them to keep working towards their dreams. It was also lovely to catch up with some of our youth in high school and see how they are doing!

Listening, learning and Improving.
As part of our community training, we also collect feedback from parents and guardians through our Monitoring and Evaluation process. This helps us understand the impact of our work and how we can continue to improve. 📝

Thank you to all the parents and guardians for taking part and learning with us! 🙏

Yesterday, Umoja youth had an important session on the different stages of adolescence, with open conversations around sexual and reproductive health.

It was a valuable opportunity for our young people to share their thoughts, and better understand the changes they experience as they grow.

A big thank you to Vision for Youth for facilitating this important session and creating a safe space for meaningful conversations. Together, we are helping our youth grow with knowledge, confidence, and the right information to make informed decisions about their future.

Yesterday, we had a lovely visitor, Edie, from Australia. She enjoying trying "Makande", a traditional Pare dish made with beans and maize, together with our Umoja youth. It was a lovely moment of sharing food, stories, and laughter together.

Thank you, Edie, for visiting Umoja and spending time with our youth. We really enjoyed having you with us!
