PAPU Cements Continental-Regional Postal Synergy at WAPCO Sessions in Banjul
PAPU was represented by its Secretary General, Dr Sifundo Chief Moyo, during the 6th Ordinary Session of the WAPCO Council of Administration (9–11 February 2026) and the 3rd Ordinary Session of the WAPCO Council of Ministers (12 February 2026), held in Banjul, Republic of The Gambia.
Dr. Moyo used the platform to reaffirm PAPU's continental leadership role and unwavering commitment to building an integrated, modern and competitive African postal network aligned with AU Agenda 2063 and the Sustainable Development Goals.
Speaking during the Opening Ceremony, Dr Moyo, hailed WAPCO as a strategic pillar of Africa’s postal coordination architecture and reaffirmed PAPU’s commitment to deeper collaboration through the PAPU–WAPCO Memorandum of Understanding (2023).
Dr Moyo highlighted the following key continental milestones achieved during the 2021–2026 cycle:
✅Completion of the 17-storey PAPU Tower,
✅Expanded digitalisation and e-commerce readiness, and
✅Stronger African unity at global UPU platforms, including the UPU Extraordinary Congress in Riyadh (2023) and the 28th UPU Congress in Dubai (2025).
PAPU also used this high-level platform to extend a formal invitation to WAPCO Member States to participate in the upcoming PAPU Plenipotentiary Conference to be held from 16 to 28 March 2026 in Kampala, Uganda .
The Opening Ceremony was graced by the Vice President of The Republic of The Gambia, H.E. Mr Muhammed B.S. Jallow.
Speaking as Guest of Honour, H.E. Muhammed Jallow emphasized the modern role of the Post as a driver of financial inclusion, e-commerce, SME growth and rural connectivity, while reaffirming The Gambia’s unwavering commitment to postal modernization, digital addressing and service innovation.
