NIPOST RECEIVES PAPU SECRETARY GENERAL, REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO AFRICAN POSTAL DEVELOPMENT:
The Postmaster General of the Federation/CEO, NIPOST, Tola Odeyemi, received the Secretary General of the Pan African Postal Union (PAPU), Dr. Sifundo Chief Moyo, during a courtesy visit aimed at strengthening cooperation between NIPOST and the continental postal body.
Welcoming the PAPU Secretary General, the Postmaster General expressed appreciation for the visit and acknowledged PAPU's continued partnership and unwavering support for NIPOST. She highlighted the ongoing transformation of the organisation and briefed the Secretary General on NIPOST's strategic reform agenda, built around five key pillars designed to reposition the postal service for sustainable growth. These include strengthening mail and logistics services, expanding value-added services, enhancing financial services, improving e-government services, and driving digital transformation across postal operations.
Odeyemi reaffirmed NIPOST's commitment to modernising its operations and delivering innovative, customer-focused services that meet the evolving needs of Nigerians while contributing to Africa's Postal development.
In his remarks, Dr. Sifundo Chief Moyo thanked the Postmaster General and Management for the warm reception. He congratulated Odeyemi and her team on the remarkable progress and achievements recorded under her leadership, noting that the ongoing Digital transformation has given NIPOST a stronger and more positive position within the African Postal Sector.
The PAPU Secretary General also gave a brief overview of the history of the Pan African Postal Union, established in 1980, and highlighted its role in promoting cooperation, integration and development among postal administrations across Africa. He commended Nigeria for its consistent commitment to PAPU, particularly its up-to-date financial contributions, which remain vital to the Union's operations.
Dr. Moyo further acknowledged Nigeria's active participation in Postal affairs within the African sub-region and praised the leadership role currently being played by the Postmaster General as Chairperson of the CEO's Forum PAPU. He encouraged NIPOST to continue supporting government initiatives and to embrace technological innovation as a means of improving service delivery, stressing that the Postal Sector must remain technologically relevant rather than compete against technological advancement.
Management staff of NIPOST who attended the meeting also expressed appreciation to the PAPU Secretary General for the visit and appealed for continued technical collaboration and institutional support from PAPU to further strengthen NIPOST's operations, particularly in the areas of cargo, logistics and regional postal integration across Africa.
The visit reaffirmed the strong partnership between NIPOST and PAPU and underscored their shared commitment to advancing Postal development, Innovation and regional cooperation for the benefit of Africa's postal sector.
