Usa River Youth and Development Organisation - URYDO

Usa River Youth and Development Organisation - URYDO Om projektet (English below)

Usa River Youth and Development Organisation (URYDO) is a meeting place for the youth in Usa River, Tanzania, where they can do sports and hobbies and get support in getting a job and talking responsibility for their own lives Det er et udviklingsprojekt, der ved hjælp af sports- og hobbyaktiviteter tiltrækker byens unge, som normalt ikke er interesserede i at deltage i velgørenhedsprojekter, men

Usa River Youth and Development Organisation (URYDO) from 2007 is a club for young people in Usa River, Tanzania. It supports them in finding a job and take responsibility for their own lives. ENGLISH
About the project
Usa River Sports and Hobby Club is much more than a sports club. It is a development project where sports and hobby activities contain the frame. The young people in Usa River who are not normally interested in participation in charity projects like to do sports. By establishing a sports and hobby club, the young men and women thereby have a gathering place. The overall objective of Usa River Youth and Development Organization is to strengthen the motivation of the young people to take on responsibility in their own lives. In the longer term it is the hope that the young people thereby can help improving the social conditions in the town of Usa River. The club's activities
The club includes a club house where everyone can come and participate in the club's many free activities. These activities are: Football, volleyball, table tennis, board games, drama, English teaching, information evenings, debates, listening to music and watching movies. In so doing, the sports club gives the young people an alternative to the hard life on the streets and in the bars. In addition the club now offers courses in entrepreneurship, organization and teaching of crafts such as making candles or leather goods. There are also loan and saving groups where the young people help each other to save and invest. Project Expansion 2013
Danida funds now the project for the period 2013-2016. The project expansion is rooted in a need for a a stronger focus on job creation. The young people find it difficult to get a jobs and create an income. We focus on how the young people are ensured access to the job market, and access to education and skills, and how the management of the club is strengthened and cooperation with the other relevant organizations in the community. The target group is the approx. 300 young members and the management of the club. There are formulated these overall objectives of the project; the ability of the young people to improve their own life situation, and Usa River Sports and Hobby Club's ability to support them through advocacy and through increased organizational capacity. Networking and friendships
A key element in the club is to create network and friendships among the young people. A survey before the start of the project showed that most of the young men only trusted one person or no one. The club will improve social confidence through physical activity, cooperation and exchange of experience. Voluntary work
The club's activities are based on voluntary work. It is not widely used in Tanzania to ne a volunteer. However, we are experiencing that to be a volunteer contributes positively to self-esteem and motivation. Each activity is run by a committee of volunteer members who work with the club's management. By participating in the club's work, either as coaches or committee member the young people experience that they successfully are able to take on responsibility and thereby gain confidence. The young people really feel that it is their club - and they're proud of it! They feel responsibility and ownership of the club's activities and thereby they help to carry the project into the future.
