Here is an initiative that has so much to do with Servas: the Planting seeds of peace project, that started in 1993, brings together teenagers from conflict-torn areas of the world and aims at creating spaces for understanding and empathy.

"The Seeds of Peace summer camp, for teenagers aged 14 to 17 from eight different countries including the UK, has been running for 30 years but this is the first time it has been held in Britain."

Day 2 Servas International Youth and Families Camp
Apúlia, Portugal
The morning was spent by the river Cávado, doing many activities like kayakking, SUP or just swimmimg in the river. Everybody enjoyed this day out and it was a great way to spend the day. In the evening we had the screening of a documentary about refugees in Turkey, followed by a discussion about the role of Servas in promoting understanding, empathy and breaking down prejudices.

Today, 15 August 2026, marks exactly five years since the Taliban took control of Kabul and returned to power in Afghanistan on 15 August 2021, following the collapse of the Afghan government and the departure of President Ashraf Ghani. The anniversary is being marked by Taliban celebrations inside Afghanistan, while the UN and many human rights organizations are using the date to highlight the continuing erosion of the rights of women and girls.

Restrictions were imposed on women and girls progressively through a series of decrees.
Since August 2021, the Taliban have issued more than 100 edicts restricting nearly every aspect of women's and girls' lives. Girls above the age of 12 remain barred from secondary school, women are excluded from universities, and many professions and public spaces are closed to them.
