Arusha Women Legal Aid and Human Rights Organization - Awlahurio Arusha Women Legal Aid and Human Rights Organization (AWLAHURIO) is a non-profit NGO formed by Women All members and advisors are volunteers.

Arusha Women Legal Aid and Human Rights Organization (AWLAHURIO) is a non-profit NGO formed by Women’s Legal Aid Centre (WLAC) of Dar es Salaam in 1992 as a paralegal unit. The Awlahurio was registered in 1998 with the name of Arusha Women Legal Aid and Human Rights Centre (AWLAHURIO). Due to the new law of NGOs, the AWLAHURIO was registered in 2014 with the name of Arusha Women Legal Aid and Huma

n Rights Organization (AWLAHURIO). We now operate in Arusha region.

**Opening hours for new clients is Tuesday and Thursday between 2-5pm.**

The vision of the organization is a just society that respects women and children’s rights. Our mission is to promote access to justice, good governance and lobbying, and to advocate gender responsive policies for women and children. Specific Objectives:

- To provide legal aid services to indigent society particularly women and children in Tanzania.
- To facilitate community capacity building on women and children’s legal and human rights.
-To facilitate the establishment and strengthening of community organizations for the advancement of legal awareness and education.
- To develop and strengthen women and children’s rights partnerships with actors at the regional, national and international levels.
- To prepare information radio and television programs and liaise with the print media on issues related to gender equality and women and children’s rights.
- To prepare and publish educational reading materials related to women and children’s rights.
- To educate community and stakeholders on the issues concerning governance, accountability, integrity, transparency, fighting corruption and HIV/AIDS.
-To encourage and support poor women in establishing self-help groups.
- To provide consultancy services on legal matters.

Following the legal assistance event held in Arusha from March 1 to March 8, 2028, as part of the national commemoration of International Women’s Day, which was coordinated by MoCLA under Mama Samiah Legal Aid, on March 21, 2025, a 105-year-old widow, who had been deprived of her land, was handed over a plot measuring 113 feet in length and 85 feet in width in Marurani village, Mbughuni Ward, Arumeru District, Arusha Region. AWLAHURIO Arusha witnessed this handover process of the land.

Dear followers,

From January 25 to February 3, 2025, the Arusha Women Legal Aid and Human Rights Organization (AWLAHURIO), alongside other stakeholders, participated in Law Week and Law Day in Arusha, Tanzania. During this time, we engaged in a voluntary walk from the High Court of Tanzania, Arusha Registry, to the TBA Grounds, where we provided legal services. We also offered legal education at pavilion, primary and secondary schools, as well as colleges, and facilitated programs through the radio, This event was organized by the Judiciary of Tanzania.
