Youth Leading Restoration 🌱

A new generation of environmental leaders is rising. Through ECIO, youth are trained in restoration and native species management, turning knowledge into action, restoring grasslands, improving soil health, and protecting water sources across pastoralist communities

We are grateful to the UN Decade Youth Task Force, UNEP, Plant-for-the-Planet Foundation, and Green Canopy Enviro-Care for supporting this impact.

At just 15, Olobikoo is already shaping his community’s future one tree at a time. Through ECIO’s youth-led restoration program, he helped plant 200 climate-ready native seedlings turning knowledge into action and inspiring other young people to lead.

Together, we are restoring grasslands, improving soil health, and strengthening water security and climate resilience across pastoralist communities.

This impact is possible because of our partners: the UN Decade Youth Task Force, UNEP, Plant-for-the-Planet Foundation, and Green Canopy Enviro-Care.

Empowering Women Through Livestock.

At ECIO, we are advancing women’s economic independence where it matters most. Through our latest initiative, 40 Maasai women have received 25 goats a strategic investment already creating measurable impact in income generation and household resilience.

In pastoralist communities, livestock are more than assets they are food, school fees, healthcare, and dignity. Yet ownership has traditionally excluded women, limiting their economic power and decision-making.

ECIO is changing that. By supporting women to own livestock, we are enabling them to generate income, invest in their families, and build secure, independent futures.

Each goat represents more than support it is a pathway to equity, resilience, and lasting transformation.

We are grateful to our partners and supporters who make this impact possible. Together, we are building stronger communities one woman, one livelihood, at a time.

We are honored to be the recipient of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration Youth Micro grant under the initiative.

Through our Savannah Restoration Project in Tanzania we are advancing grassland restoration, soil regeneration, and community led tree planting to strengthen biodiversity, water security, and climate resilience in Maasai communities.

This recognition reinforces the power of youth led, grassroots solutions rooted in local knowledge and long term sustainability.

We are grateful to the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, Youth Task Force and partners for this opportunity to scale impact.

Today was more than just cooking. It was a beautiful moment of sharing, learning, and laughter. Together with Maasai women, we prepared Pilau side by side — each hand helping, each heart open. As the spices filled the air, stories, wisdom, and experiences were shared.

Through the support of Ellen ,these moments create a space where women learn from one another, build confidence, and strengthen their community. Cooking together reminded us that empowerment sometimes begins with the simplest moments — sitting together, sharing food, and uplifting one another.

A beautiful day of connection, learning, and laughter.
ECIO Women Empowerment together with our wonderful volunteer Ellen enjoyed a special cooking moment with the Noongipa Group. Sharing food, stories, and smiles reminded us how powerful women supporting women can be. Together we are building stronger Maasai communities and brighter days for women.

This IWD, ECIO celebrates the strength, dignity, and leadership of Maasai women and girls who are transforming their communities.

Over the past year, 1358 Maasai women have strengthened their economic independence through locally led business empowerment initiatives building small enterprises, increasing household income, and gaining greater voice in community decision making.

For us empowerment is not only about today. When women earn, girls stay in school. When women lead, communities change. Through our programs, women are supporting the next generation ensuring girls grow with confidence, education, and the freedom to shape their own futures.

Across Indigenous pastoralist communities, women are rising from starting businesses to influencing community leadership and protecting their environment.

This progress belongs to them: to the resilience, courage, and determination of Indigenous women who refuse to be defined by barriers.

At ECIO, every day is Women’s Day. Every day we witness women leading change.

Today we celebrate “HER” because when women thrive, communities grow stronger, and the future becomes possible.

Empowering a girl with knowledge is empowering an entire community.

Through our menstrual circle mentorship, ECIO Organization is creating a safe space for young Maasai girls to learn about menstrual health, hygiene, and how to confidently use sanitary pads.

Many girls face fear, shame, and misinformation during their first menstruation. Through open dialogue, education, and support, we are helping them understand their bodies, protect their health, and stay in school with dignity.

Together, we are raising a generation of confident, informed, and empowered Maasai girls who know their value and their rights.

Reaching the Unreached: Giving Maasai Girls the Knowledge They Deserve

ECIO Organization proudly visited Olorobi Primary School to conduct a live seminar with girls aged 12–16 on reproductive health education and the menstrual cycle. In many remote Maasai schools, access to accurate health information remains limited due to distance, cultural silence around these topics, and lack of trained health professionals. Reaching these girls is not easy — but it is necessary.

The session became a safe and transformative space. The girls courageously opened up about their personal health challenges, fears, and confusion surrounding menstruation and bodily changes. Their honesty showed how deeply these conversations are needed.

With the support of our dedicated health consultant, Naomi, we provided professional guidance, answered sensitive questions, and ensured every girl felt heard, respected, and empowered with knowledge about her own body.

When we educate a girl, we protect her dignity, her confidence, and her future. This is how change begins — even in the most remote communities.

We are deeply honored to see our Director, , inspire a powerful room of women leaders sharing her journey from personal resistance to advancing the rights of every Maasai girl.

She spoke candidly about the barriers many girls still face limited access to education, protection, and equal opportunity and reaffirmed ECIO’s commitment to changing that reality. What began as one girl’s determination has grown into measurable community impact: girls in school, women economically empowered, and futures reclaimed.

Thank you to our Board Chairwoman , fellow speakers, and collaborators for creating such a meaningful space for dialogue and action.

When women rise with purpose, communities transform.
