On this day 5 years ago, my sons Brian (aged 12), and his brother Graham (aged 10), summited Mt. Kilimanjaro at 12:04pm.
Amongst some of the youngest to climb Kilimanjaro, it was a rewarding and incredible experience for them.

The aim of the expedition was to generate funds for our Anti Poaching and Conservation efforts for the Robin Hurt Wildlife Foundation (RHWF), and the Tanzania Wildlife. authority (TAWA).

Donations generated an outstanding US$50,000 which in turn gave us 10 months of boots on the ground. Again I’d like to thank all of our supporters for their incredible generosity.

To this day, our Conservation objectives under RHWF, in terms of Anti Poaching, Community Development, and Community Health and Wellness is one of the most important aspects of our lives.

Again well done Brian & Graham.
With many thanks, and best wishes,

Derek Hurt

It’s that time of year again. Our ant-poaching teams are hard at work in Western Tanzania, where conditions are still challenging after the rainy season, but their presence is an extremely important deterrent to poachers, so we battle on!

At the start of this month, we had the pleasure of hosting students from UWC East Africa for their Project Week in our area of Lake Natron South. The visit gave students a hands-on experience in conservation and community outreach within Maasai land.

Throughout the week, the students joined our anti-poaching team out in the field — learning about wildlife protection and the daily challenges of conserving large wilderness areas. Together, we encountered illegal charcoal burning sites and discovered an old giraffe snare, powerful reminders of the ongoing threats to wildlife.

The group visited Engushai Primary School and a local kindergarten in our area, where they helped distribute school supplies made possible by the generous donors of the Robin Hurt Wildlife Foundation. These donations continue to make a lasting difference — supporting local education, empowering children, and strengthening the link between conservation and community well-being.

This was an enlightening week for both our team and the students. The students left with a deeper understanding of the complexities of protecting wildlife and supporting communities in remote areas, while our team was inspired by their energy and curiosity.

Another great update from the field! Thanks to a tip-off from a community member, RHWF Anti-Poaching teams together with Rangers from Tanzania Wildlife Management Authority, were able to apprehend a poacher in the process of illegally hunting Giraffe. The poacher was arrested and charged, and his motorcycle confiscated. The Giraffe he was pursuing escaped unharmed. Thanks to a generous grant from we have been hugely successful at stopping poaching and habitat destruction in our Lake Natron South concession. Catching poachers before they kill wildlife is testament to a rapid response from our units and an engaged community that sees the benefits of coexistence with wildlife.

A big win for our Anti-poaching Unit to kick off the week! This motorcycle and homemade spear were confiscated from a poacher illegally hunting Maasai Giraffe in our Lake Natron South concession. Thanks to a grant from we have been able to boost patrols, enhance our network of local informers and educate communities about how poaching is the theft of communal resources. Catching poachers and confiscating their equipment before they can kill wildlife is indicative of good ops planning and ex*****on by our team!

Congratulations to William on winning his event at Kilitrails, sponsored by Robin Hurt Wildlife Foundation.

Thanks to the generosity of and the kind support from , these wonderful young learners will have a brand new classroom, a proper indoor school kitchen and an adequate supply of clean water in perpetuity. Hunter’s dollars don’t just protect wildlife and habitat, they support education, health and livelihoods for local communities as well. These students and many others like them are the direct beneficiaries of sustainable, regulated hunting in Tanzania. Thank you for your support!

We are thrilled to announce a new partnership between the DSC Foundation (DSCF) and Robin Hurt Wildlife Foundation (RHWF).

DSCF has awarded a significant grant to RHWF for the Masai Giraffe Anti-Poaching Campaign in Lake Natron South. This initiative is a critical step towards combating poaching activities that threaten all wildlife in the region.
This partnership not only aligns with DSCF’s mission by supporting sustainable wildlife management and conservation efforts but also highlights the importance of legal, regulated hunting as a tool for conservation.
RHWF will leverage the grant to enhance our anti-poaching operations in the area and also educate community members on the detrimental effects of the bush meat trade on natural heritage and local economies.
For more information about this partnership or would like to donate towards our conservation efforts, please contact us at [email protected]
Together, we are making a difference in the fight against wildlife poaching.
