๐ŸŒ Enkongโ€™u naipangโ€™a engโ€™en.
Clever is the eye that has traveled.

For the Maasai, this proverb expresses that wisdom grows from experience, from what we see, learn, and understand in interaction with others.

The Engishon EMAA Foundation sees itself as the eye of its community. We have traveled, gathered knowledge, and gained new perspectives. But above all, it is our partners and supporters around the world who share their knowledge and experience with us and, at the same time, contribute our wisdom and knowledge to their communities.

This vibrant exchange, sharing experiences between communities, building bridges, respect each otherโ€™s cultures and strengthening what unites us, is the foundation for the future of the Maasai and the land that sustains us.

๐ŸŒ Knowledge only unfolds its power when it is shared.

๐Ÿซ Have you ever heard of Maasai Land Rovers? Donkeys are the famous Land Rovers of the Maasai, used to transport food, water, and wood for house construction. Donkeys are widespread among the Maasai and indispensable for covering long distances with heavy loads.

๐ŸŒฟ The Lake Natron area has been at the heart of the indigenous Maasai people for centuries. The unique habitat and landscape are preserved through ancestral knowledge and practices such as traditional pastoralism. The Maasai rely on pastoral areas such as the so-called "Hole of God" to graze their livestock during periods of extreme drought. Therefore, outside of the drought season, no one is allowed to graze their livestock within the depression.

โ›ฐ๏ธ From this caldera, you also have a majestic view of the striking mountains of the Lake Natron region: Kerimasi, Kitumbeine, and, of course, Oldonyo Lengai.

Training so that we can continue to serve our community

Our member Baraka recently attended the WILDERNESS FIRST RESPONDER course, held by in Moshi.

This course is a recognized industry standard for outdoor trip leaders, camp counsellors, mountain guides, and anyone else who works in the outdoors.

It teaches how to care for patients in remote locations or challenging weather, with questionable communication and support, improvised equipment, and limited time for decisions.

Thanks to making this possible for us. The income from working in tourism are essential for our community based work and now with this qualification Baraka can take even more care and responsibility for the campโ€™s customers.

Whereas Maasai communities are at risk of eviction from their land in the Ngorongoro district, which also includes the Ngorongoro Nature Reserve and the Loliondo Protected Area, the European Parliament

โžก๏ธ Urges the Government of Tanzania to immediately stop the forcible displacement of the Maasai communities, to refrain from taking any action that has a negative impact on the lives, livelihoods and culture of these communities, to guarantee their safe return and their right of access to ensure justice and effective remedies for victims.

โžก๏ธ Calls on the Government of Tanzania to recognize and protect the rights of indigenous peoples and local communities, as well as the land and resources that Maasai communities have managed for generations, and their role in the conservation of wildlife and to treat biological diversity with appreciation.

โžก๏ธ Reaffirms that any action relating to Maasai communities must respect the rule of law and human rights, and in particular the rights of indigenous peoples and local communities, including their right to self-determination, to land and to freedom of assembly.

โžก๏ธ Calls on the Tanzanian authorities to work with the affected communities to find a lasting and acceptable solution for the Maasai people in Ngorongoro district, which also respects their rights.

Poverty is - among other things - both a cause and a consequence of lack of access to education. Maasai families are often faced with the difficult choice of either falling further into poverty to send their children to school, or maintaining the status quo without providing them with a real future.

Girls in pastoral Maasai communities are often at risk of early marriage. Typically, Maasai girls are married off to a man chosen by their father in exchange for cattle. The consequences of early marriage for girls are serious, not least the fact that these girls are often forced to leave school and abandon their education.

So - letโ€™s work together on girlsโ€˜ future and advocate that girls have equal educational opportunities.
