Today, Trias East Africa and our Member Based Organizations (MBOs) in Tanzania marked International Youth Day with a vibrant event in Arusha under the theme “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.”

Young entrepreneurs and established business owners came together for a day of interaction, mentorship, and celebration recognizing the achievements of youth led businesses and the resilience behind them.

The event also served as a real platform for growth. Entrepreneurs exchanged practical insights, shared lessons from their journeys, and built new networks to support their ventures. Representatives from government institutions and banks also joined, sharing opportunities youth can tap into to grow their businesses and improve their lives.

Strengthening Multi Stakeholder Action for Sustainable Food Systems in Hoima and Kikuube Districts
Together with our partner Hoima District Farmers Association , we are conducting a Multi Stakeholder
Platform Dialogue on the Enforcement of Policies and Regulations Against Deforestation and Water Catchment
Encroachment in Hoima and Kikuube Districts under the food systems project funded by the German government.
Under the theme: “Strengthening Enforcement of Policies and Regulations Against Deforestation and Water
Catchment Encroachments for Sustainable Food Systems,” the dialogue brings together local government leaders,
environmental actors, community representatives, development partners, and other stakeholders to discuss practical
approaches for strengthening environmental governance.
The platform provides an opportunity to reflect on existing challenges, share experiences, and identify collaborative
solutions to enhance the enforcement of environmental policies, protect water catchments, and promote sustainable
land management practices.
Speaking during the dialogue, the Hoima City Environment Officer emphasized the importance of collaboration in
environmental enforcement, noting:
"Joint enforcement is the way to go because it reduces interference from corrupt officials."
Strengthening collective action among stakeholders is critical in protecting natural resources, promoting
accountability, and building resilient food systems that support communities and future generations.

Through the INCLU-CITIES Project, funded by the European Union in Tanzania via Enabel , Trias is empowering seaweed farmers to achieve more sustainable growth.

Following an assessment of the seaweed value chain in Micheweni, Pemba, our team, in partnership with Zanzibar Chamber in Pemba, identified key challenges and opportunities affecting the productivity and sustainability of local seaweed farming.

These insights have laid the foundation for a series of transformative initiatives aimed at strengthening the sector and improving the livelihoods of seaweed producer groups.

Stay tuned as we take you along on this journey of transformation in Micheweni, Pemba, and showcase the positive impact it will have on the lives of these dedicated farmers.

When the DGD programme began in 2022, our partner, the Uganda Small Scale Industries Association made a bold commitment to skill more than 1,000 young people through apprenticeship placements.

Today, that commitment is making a real difference. Young people have acquired practical skills in tailoring, carpentry, bakery, mechanical engineering, and many other trades, empowering them to pursue employment, entrepreneurship, and sustainable livelihoods.

This progress would not have been possible without the generous support of the Embassy of Belgium in Uganda. We sincerely appreciate this partnership and the shared commitment to creating opportunities for Uganda's youth.

As we move forward, we remain committed to working with our partner MBOs to equip even more young people with the skills needed to thrive in an evolving economy.

It was a pleasure to welcome Martin Deroove, Head of Cooperation at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Embassy of Belgium in Tanzania , to Trias for a productive discussion on the progress of our current programme funded by the Directorate-General for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid (DGD).

We also had the opportunity to share our innovative and future-focused vision for the next programming cycle, with continued emphasis on improving livelihoods, promoting environmental sustainability, and advancing inclusive development.

We sincerely appreciate the Government of Belgium for its continued partnership and steadfast support. We look forward to strengthening this collaboration to create lasting impact for the communities we serve.

Last week, Trias Tanzania via the INCLUCITIES Project funded by European Union Delegation to Tanzania through Enabel in Tanzania , brought together local living labs, government institutions, private sector actors, and entrepreneur support providers for a stakeholder validation workshop on Circular Economy and Waste Management.

Together, we:
✅ Presented key findings from the Mwanza and Pemba value chain study
✅ Shared insights on the local waste management landscape
✅ Co-created solutions to challenges, opportunities, and investment potential
✅ Strengthened partnerships to drive impact beyond the program

One clear takeaway: waste is an untapped economic opportunity. Better collection systems, local processing, entrepreneurship, and stronger market linkages can turn it into green jobs and sustainable businesses for Mwanza and Pemba.

Inclusive growth. Environmental sustainability. Community by driven solutions. That’s the circular economy in action. 🌍

Protecting Farmers, Protecting Lives

As part of our partnership with The Uganda National Apiculture Development Organisation, Trias Uganda was delighted to participate in the national awareness workshop on restricted agrochemicals in Uganda, held at Hotel Eliana in Kampala. The workshop brought together representatives from UGANDA, Ministry of Water and Environment, development partners, Uganda National Agro Input Dealers Association, farmers, agro input dealers, and other key stakeholders to discuss the growing concern over the misuse of restricted agrochemicals.
The fight against the misuse of agrochemicals is a shared responsibility. Unsafe use of these chemicals continues to pose serious health and environmental risks to millions of Ugandans, especially farming communities.
During the discussions, one participant raised a thought-provoking question,

"If Europe, with its advanced technology and technical expertise, has banned the use of some dangerous agrochemicals to protect its citizens, how effective are our Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in guaranteeing the safety of Ugandan farmers against the health risks posed by these dangerous chemicals still available on our markets?"

This question challenges all stakeholders — regulatory ministries, agencies, development partners, and the private sector — to strengthen efforts towards safer agricultural practices and better protection for farmers. At Trias Uganda, we remain committed to promoting sustainable agriculture and supporting initiatives that protect farmers, consumers, and the environment through our partner farmer organizations.
