Witty and Lorenzo met through our organization and now they are our family friends! One afternoon after lunch we were discussing which place to take their thanksgiving donation and we suggested to them the Destiny Foundation special needs center. They visited the center and talked to the staff to hear what they needed before going to town for their shopping. They got some basic needs (items that get used up fast) and playing items. The kids themselves were very happy to have some people choose to spend some time with them.

They also gave the center rent money for 3 months to lessen their financial difficulties.

We appreciate you Witty and Lorenzo for your kindness to the center and they say ‘Asante sana!’ ❤️‍🩹☀️🙏

Julie and Alex were a power couple from Denmark! Julie has worked at a kindergarten and is a dance instructor as well. Alex is a sports coach for kids and a supplies expert. You will love their sync when it comes to teaching! The children were very motivated amidst learning new games and plays to make them more active. The volunteers were with the school for only one week but it was a very emotional bye-bye. The bond had just started to improve.

Apart from Teaching, Julie and Alex supported the school with some learning and playing materials which they bought locally, thus supporting the local traders as well. They are also sponsoring the education of one of the kids at the school, named “Alex”. 😇

We also had a great time with them at the house, we remember their love for African music and the big hamburgers they made us and Ivy, Birte and David! One of us ate 3 burgers! 😀🍔

In their free time they visited some attractions in Kilimanjaro and after their program they went on Safari and then Zanzibar afterwards. We thank you Julie and Alex for your time with us and the school, and for all the great moments! We wish you all the best in your future together! 🇩🇰🇹🇿❤️

Birte was our volunteer from Germany. A certified government veterinarian, working in animal welfare and disease-control. This time she came to Tanzania on her mission to share her experience in the Animal Welfare project in Africa through our organization. Upon her arrival she was welcomed by Schola who became her friend instantly! Her stay was a blessing to the Animal welfare project under Dr. Maguo and us!

She came with some donations for the vet clinic she was working at, a support that led to an outreach activity to vaccinate domestic animals in the Maasai community; donkeys, goats and sheep.

Birte also set up a fundraiser to help fix Dr. Maguo’s car which he uses in his daily vet activities as well as for outreach programs. He also picks up his volunteers with it in the morning and drops them off after the day’s activities.

As this was her second time visiting Tanzania, she decided to do it with another organization, you can tell she was very happy staying with us, something we are proud of for sure! She made friends with Ivy and Asa 🙂 She is now also sponsoring our daughter and junior coordinator, Ivy! And she has convinced her friends to also sponsor children’s education here!

We thank you so much Birte Könnecke for your work and your love towards Africa and our lives personally! May God bless you abundantly! 🙏❤️☀️

In between work she also had an opportunity to visit attractions available in Arusha, Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar!

Meet Steve, the Mzungu Maasai. 😀☀️
Okay the story is about the Maasai Cloth. The Maasai shuka is a vibrant, durable, often red-checked cloth worn by the Maasai people of Kenya and Tanzania as a traditional garment. Symbolizing strength, bravery, and cultural identity.

Cultural Significance: The shuka (meaning “cloth” or “wrapper” in Maa) is a core element of Maasai identity, often representing the wearer’s role and status within the community.

Color Symbolism: While red is the most iconic color representing bravery and strength, the Maasai also wear blue, black, and striped patterns depending on the occasion.

Practical Use: The thick, durable material helps protect against the harsh climate and terrain of the savannah. It is versatile, used as a shawl, cloak, or wrapped around the body.

Origin: Although now considered traditional, the commercial cotton shuka replaced sheepskin and hide clothing in the 1960s, with origins often attributed to Scottish missionaries in the early 20th century.

Lion Deterrent: The bright red color is believed to help deter wild animals like lions.
