Chung-Wen CHU is an artist and writer whose work includes fiction, photography, alternative photographic processes, video, and participatory projects. She works with both text and image to explore memory, identity, and human relationships. Her literary works include Grandmother, a novella about female identity and intergenerational caregiving, and Traveling Like Everyday Life, a writing project that has continued for more than ten years. Her recent work is set against the historical transitions of East Asia before and after World War II and follows a fictional Japanese woman who disappeared after becoming a citizen of the Republic of China. Through this story, Chu reflects on history, nationhood, and the lingering anxiety of war in contemporary society. Across different forms, her work continues to return to the same question: understanding may never be complete, yet people still need to respond to one another.
