Press Release of TTLU
Despite company pressure, the union remains steadfast! TTLU voted to strike
2025.12.9.
Taidoc Technology Labor Union (TTLU) held a strike vote on December 1, 2025. The voter turnout was 65.79%, with 92% voting in favor of a strike. The TTLU hereby formally announces that it has obtained the legal right to strike through the strike vote. However, because the union has separately applied for a dispute concerning the renewal of contracts for all members upon expiration, which overlaps with its previous labor dispute mediation requests, the strike will only commence after that mediation concludes.
Lennon Ying-Da Wang, Secretary-General of the TTLU, stated, "While a voter turnout of 65.79% may not seem particularly high, in early November, Taidoc's HR manager directly convened separate meetings with all union cadres and migrant workers at the Wugu factory, directly suppressing the union and demanding that all members withdraw from the union and withdraw their labor disputes. This caused panic and dissatisfaction among all migrant workers. Given this unbridled and lawless suppression of the union by the management, it is truly commendable that 65.79% of members dared to participate in the vote after get off work."
"More importantly, a staggering 92% of the members who attended the vote supported the strike, demonstrating the high level of support from members and representing the high legitimacy of the union's strike."
"All of the union's demands comply with domestic laws and regulations, the International Labour Organization's "Fair Employment Guidelines," and the Code of Conduct of the Responsible Business Alliance. These demands include that the employer pay overtime for "labor services" used to penalize migrant workers, refund all agency fees paid in Taiwan or the home country when renewing contracts, refund all agency fees paid in the home country, monthly agency service fees paid in Taiwan, and “buy-job fees” paid when switching to Taidoc, renew contracts for all members upon expiration, cancel severance pay, cancel provisions including pregnancy discrimination and various penalties and compensation clauses, and refund all illegal fines.”
Since the union initiated the labor dispute, it has made some progress, obtaining slight concessions from the management. These include a promise to revise the "Taidoc Technology Co., Ltd. Foreign Employee Personnel Management Guidelines," which was falsely claimed to have been revised on December 18, 2024; to cancel the requirement to upload photos during the curfew at the Wugu plant; to lift the ban on overnight stays outside the factory; to cancel the requirement for migrant workers to provide a one-month salary deposit before returning to their home countries for vacation; and a promise to re-hire one director. However, all other union demands remain unfulfilled.
Wang recently met with U.S. State Department officials who were visiting Taiwan and expressed the seriousness of the Tybo case, which has also attracted U.S. attention.
The union stated, "Taidoc profits immensely from various medical and cosmetic products, but its profits are built on inhumane iron-fisted management and repression of migrant workers. In the past, migrant workers have filed numerous complaints with the Labor Bureau, individually or collectively, only to be met with pressure and retaliation from the employer. But now that we have the union, we will not easily surrender. The union urges the employer to assess the situation, understand the global demand for fair employment and the elimination of forced labor, and heed this call. If the employer persists in its course, even more severe pressure and sanctions will likely result in more harm than good for them."
To protect the rights of all members and uphold fairness and justice, the union will continue to actively pressure all parties to demand that employers accept the union's demands and negotiate with the union on an equal footing. The union requests continued attention and support from all parties. Several union leaders and members will also participate in this Sunday's migrant worker march, joining migrant workers across Taiwan in demanding the removal of the work experience requirement, a constraint imposed on all migrant workers!
