Following the recent earthquake in the Kumamoto, Japan, the ATN Secretariat would like to express our deepest sympathy and concern for all those affected.

We sincerely wish those who were injured a speedy recovery, and we hope that all affected families and communities will overcome this difficult time safely and that the recovery and rebuilding process will progress smoothly.

Trails connect not only landscapes and nature, but also people through trust, cooperation, and friendship. Since its establishment, ATN has been committed to fostering connections among trail communities across Asia, supporting one another and walking together as partners. When any of our communities face difficulties, we hope to stand together, share our care, and convey the warmth and strength of the Asian trail community.

📣Save the date!

Dear ATN members,

Our 2026 General Assembly will be held in Jeju, Korea. Special thanks to Jeju Olle for agreeing to co-host the event.

We invite you to attend the general assembly on November 4th, 16:00-17:30 (KST), and also make sure to join the following Jeju Olle Walking Festival, from Nov. 5th to 7th, to experience the joy of walking, along with our fellow ATN members.

As Jeju prepares for a new form of walking festival, this year marks the last round of the current format. In addition, with the passing of the founder of ATN, Ms. Suh Myung-sook, it means a lot for all of us to gather together, to commemorate the vision and legacy of her dedication to trails.

You don't need to register to attend the assembly, but please reply with the names of the members who plan to attend. For the following walking festival, pre-registration will open from July 8th. Feel free to reach out to the ATN Secretariat and Jeju Olle Foundation for more info.

Congrats to our member NPO法人未来 for hosting the 25th SUN-IN Mirai Walk!

This year's event is also the IVV-Asianpiad, a major event within the IVV system, and we had the opportunity to walk with more than 5,000 people from Korea, Japan, Russia and Mongolia.

Traveling is "taking new friends to visit old ones," so we look forward to having all ATN members walk in Tottori, Japan next year together.

今年の大会は、IVVシステムにおける大規模イベント「IVVアジアピアード」も兼ねて開催され、韓国、日本、ロシア、モンゴルなどから集まった5,000人以上の参加者の皆さまと一緒に歩く機会に恵まれました。

「旅とは、新しい友人を昔からの友人に会わせること」。来年は日本・鳥取で、ATNメンバーの皆さまと共に歩けることを楽しみにしています！

올해 행사는 IVV 시스템의 주요 국제 행사인 IVV 아시안피아드(IVV-Asiad)와 함께 진행되었으며, 한국, 일본, 러시아, 몽골에서 온 5,000명 이상의 참가자들과 함께 걸을 수 있는 소중한 기회가 되었습니다.

Last week, the Secretariat worked with National Taiwan University and the Global Asia Research Center, inviting scholars from Taiwan, Korea, Japan and Hong Kong, to share trail advocacy research at the "Trail-making in Post-developmental East Asia" workshop.

We value this opportunity to further understand our neighbors, and hope such academic exchanges shed light on our fellow first-line practitioners. We look forward to more collaborations of the Asia Trailology Team!

先週、ATN事務局は台湾大学およびグローバル・アジア研究センターと協力し、台湾・韓国・日本・香港の研究者を招いて、「ポスト開発主義時代の東アジアにおけるトレイルづくり」ワークショップを開催しました。

各地のトレイル運動やアドボカシーに関する研究・実践事例が共有され、アジアの仲間たちへの理解をさらに深める貴重な機会となりました。こうした学術交流が、現場で活動する実践者たちに新たな視点や力をもたらすことを願っています。これからも「アジア・トレイロロジー・チーム」として、さらなる協働と交流を楽しみにしています！

지난주 사무국은 국립대만대학교 및 글로벌아시아연구센터와 함께 「탈개발 시대 동아시아의 트레일 만들기(Trail-making in Post-developmental East Asia)」 워크숍을 개최하였으며, 대만·한국·일본·홍콩의 연구자들을 초청해 트레일 운동과 관련된 연구를 공유하는 자리를 마련했습니다.

저희는 이번 기회를 통해 아시아 이웃 지역에 대한 이해를 더욱 넓힐 수 있었으며, 이러한 학술 교류가 현장에서 활동하는 실천가들에게도 새로운 통찰을 제공할 수 있기를 기대합니다. 앞으로도 아시아 트레일로지 팀(Asia Trailology Team)과 더 많은 협력이 이어지기를 바랍니다!

To our most dearly beloved Ms. Suh Myung-suk, the guiding light of the Olle Trail family, and to me, a mentor, a kindred spirit, and a sister:

We have traversed countless breathtaking trails side by side. Your brilliant smile was a constant reminder of how blessed this journey is. Through the simple act of walking, you showed us our power to build a more beautiful world and a shared future.

Though you have now departed for a distant shore, you will forever dwell within our hearts. As we walk the Olle trails, your legacy will march alongside us with every step.
