The Mustard Seed Mission, Taiwan’s pioneering social welfare organization, is committed to building a ‘Community Service Network’ that connects churches, schools, and local leaders to convey God’s love through ‘Gospel, Support, and Empowerment.’ For now, we have services in Taiwan and overseas, including community childcare, residential placement, vulnerable children sponsorship, food bank, youth employment empowerment, elder care and so on.

𝗫𝗶𝗮𝗼𝘆𝘂𝗮𝗻’𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 was balancing work, two children’s early-intervention appointments, daily caregiving, and night-time studies. With every part of her day already spoken for, the monthly 𝗖𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 points available to her family had gone unused.

During a home visit, an MSM social worker sat beside her and walked her through the platform step by step. She also brought a Warm Meal Box filled with ready-to-heat dishes—𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗮𝘀𝗸 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆’𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀. 🍲

🥫 Through Ending Hunger | A Community Giving Network, support goes beyond delivering supplies. It means understanding what families are carrying and helping ensure that available resources can truly become part of their daily lives. 💛

🎪Typhoon season is here, and preparedness doesn’t have to feel complicated. At a 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹 in Kaohsiung, families brushed up on disaster safety through games, emergency bag challenges, and hands-on activities.

🌊Six-year-old 𝗟𝗲𝗹𝗲 was one of the children sharing what she had learned. After her home flooded during Typhoon Danas last year, having an emergency bag ready now helps her feel more prepared. 🎒

The event also marked years of work by 𝗪𝗲𝗻𝘅𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆, which has been building its disaster preparedness skills with MSM 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟵.

💪From 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 after disasters to helping families and communities 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐨𝐧𝐞, this carnival showcased every part of MSM's disaster preparedness approach. 🤝

In the 𝗛𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻 𝗩𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿, 𝗝𝘂𝗻 is making homely dishes in the kitchen. Braised pork belly. Spicy doubanjiang spare ribs. For Jun, these are more than food on the table. They are the kind of warm, familiar meals she once wished she could provide for her family every night. 🍽️

Four years ago, a workplace accident left her unable to work.🤕 Jun was 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝘄𝗼 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 on her own while 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 and 𝗱𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲𝘀 kept adding up. Through MSM’s 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 support and 𝗖𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺, she received steady support and was able to choose the food and household items for her family's needs. 📦 🧴 🍅

Then in 2025, knowing she had experience in cooking, MSM invited Jun to join the 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗺 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗕𝗼𝘅 production team to prepare ready-to-heat meals for families facing similar pressures. 𝗧𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝘀𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀. ✨

💛This is what Ending Hunger is about: to go 𝗯𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱 and 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆-𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 where families can regain stability, make choices for themselves, and take part in caring for one another.

Your donation to the Ending Hunger Project helps MSM 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿 essential supplies, provide 𝗖𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 resources, support 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗺 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗕𝗼𝘅𝗲𝘀, and 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 for people like Jun to take part in the care.

🛘On June 8, a 𝟳.𝟴 𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗸𝗲 struck Mindanao, Philippines. Weeks later, many communities are still living through the long aftermath.

⛰️In Malapatan and New Aklan, families remain in 𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 after homes were damaged or became unsafe to return to. Roads are 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵. Rainy weather adds pressure to already fragile living conditions. For children, the disaster has not only disrupted their homes but also their sense of safety. 🌧️

That is why 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗦𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻’s disaster relief team has been working alongside 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 to understand the needs on the ground and bring support to affected communities. 🤝💪

During our field response, children joined activities where they drew their dreams for the future — a simple but powerful reminder that recovery is not only about survival. It is also about helping children feel safe enough to hope again. 🖍️🌈

So far, three batches of relief supplies have been sent to support earthquake-affected families:
• 𝟰𝟬𝟬 𝗸𝗴 of supplies shipped by sea, estimated to arrive 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝘁𝗵, to our local partner Philrads
• 𝟮𝟬𝟬 𝗸𝗴 of supplies were carried by our disaster relief team into the Philippines
• Around 𝟯.𝟯 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰 𝘁𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀 were prepared for sea transport in late July
These supplies include food, diapers, sleeping mats, tents, mosquito nets, sleeping bags, hygiene items, raincoats, water containers, and other essentials for families facing displacement. 🥫🪥🧼

💛𝗘𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗳 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽. Families will continue to need support as they move from temporary shelter toward recovery and rebuilding.

🧓 “𝙏𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙬𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙄…”

By the final week, the classroom in Wugu was full of stories.
Elders flipped through their 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲-𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀, pointing to old photos, drawings, and small pieces of memory.

A job from long ago. 💼
A place they once visited. 🏞️
A song they still remembered. 🎶
A family moment that had stayed with them for decades. 👶
Page by page, their memories found their way back into the room.

But 12 weeks earlier, many of them did not believe they had much to share.
“I don’t have anything worth saying,” some said quietly.

𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗶𝘀𝘆 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗶𝗻.

Through MSM’s “𝗙𝗹𝗶𝗽 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 — 𝗠𝘆 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆” course at Wugu Community Network, Sisy used photos, image cards, coloring, songs, and gentle questions to help elders open their stories at their own pace.

For Sisy, 52, 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗷𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆.

👩‍🏫After years in education, curriculum design, adult learning, and life-story writing, she had begun to ask what her experience could become in the next chapter of her life.

That question became deeply personal after her father passed away. There were stories she never got to ask, memories she never got to record, and words left unspoken.

🌟Through MSM’s 𝟱𝟬+ 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 and 𝗦𝗶𝗹𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴, Sisy found a way to carry that regret forward—not by recovering what was lost, but by helping other families preserve the stories still within reach. 🌟

🏚️For 𝗫𝗶𝗮𝗼 𝗝𝗶𝗲 and his grandfather, a rainy day doesn't remind them of a calming white noise. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗞𝗮𝗼𝗵𝘀𝗶𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀, leaving behind 𝗺𝗼𝗹𝗱, 𝗱𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲, 𝗽𝗼𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆, and 𝗵𝗶𝗱𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸𝘀. Now over 180 cm tall, Xiao Jie still sleeps on a floor mat in the living room, with a folding table serving as his desk.

💛Three years ago, Xiao Jie joined 𝗦𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺 | 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺. Through regular visits, our social workers saw that supporting his education and daily needs was only part of the picture. The home he returned to every day also needed care.

🧹We begin by working with Xiao Jie and his grandfather to 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗱𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 and prepare the space for repairs. While it's still a 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀, for the first time, the responsibility of making the home safer does not rest on Xiao Jie’s future alone. ✨

𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫-𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐤 𝐧𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐫❤️‍🩹

On June 8, a powerful 𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲 𝟳.𝟴 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗸𝗲 struck the 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀, damaging homes and forcing thousands of families from their communities.

For 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗦𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻, we're committed to responding beyond Taiwan and standing with communities across regions facing crisis.

🏃Working closely with local partners, relief teams have been bringing clean 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 and 𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀 to earthquake-affected communities across 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗻. Heavy rain and damaged roads have made some areas difficult to reach. Teams carried the supplies forward on foot where vehicles could no longer continue.

𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠.

Our response will continue across three stages:

💛 𝐄𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐟
Providing essential supplies, temporary shelter, and emotional support to families facing immediate needs.

💛 𝐎𝐧𝐠𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞
Helping affected households regain stability as they begin rebuilding their daily lives.

💛 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠
Supporting families as they work toward safe, secure homes and longer-term recovery.

Alongside our relief work in the Philippines, we are also reaching out to the Filipino migrant community in Taiwan. Listening to their concerns and offering emotional care during this time of uncertainty.🫂

💖𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝘀𝗼 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻. From Taiwan to the Philippines, we are standing with our neighbours through the difficult days ahead.

🌜𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁, 𝘀𝗹𝗲𝗲𝗽𝘆𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱😴

𝗫𝗶𝗮𝗼 𝗬𝗼𝘂 is in his second year of junior high school. He lives with his mother in a 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺 in the city, where her 𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 from food service must cover rent, meals, school needs, and everything in between. At night, they share the same set of bedding, which, after repeated usage, has 𝗮𝗹𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗴𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗳𝗹𝗮𝘁.

When our social worker learned about the 3 sets of blankets and pillows donation coming our way, Xiao You’s family was the first to come to mind. For many of us, these are 𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀. You place them when they get old. But for families already balancing caregiving, low income, and unexpected life challenges, these 𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗽𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝘂𝗽 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗹𝘆.

As one parent in our program shared, “𝘖𝘯𝘦 𝘱𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘰𝘸 𝘤𝘰𝘴𝘵𝘴 𝘕𝘛$400 𝘵𝘰 𝘕𝘛$500, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢 𝘣𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘬𝘦𝘵 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘭𝘺 𝘤𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘕𝘛$1,000. 𝘍𝘰𝘳 𝘶𝘴, 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘢 𝘴𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘣𝘶𝘳𝘥𝘦𝘯.”

In 𝘂𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗻 𝗧𝗮𝗶𝘄𝗮𝗻, poverty can be less visible, but that does not make it less real. Sometimes, support looks like a thick blanket, a proper pillow, and a child finally sleeping with a little more comfort.

Support 𝗦𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺 | 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 and help children like Xiao You grow with steadier care.
