It was just the Dragon Boat Festival in Taiwan. It’s a huge celebration that remembers the story of Qu Yuan, a righteous and loyal man who suffered under corruption, grieved the brokenness of his nation, and threw himself into the Miluo River as an act of protest, grief, and integrity. For many people, his story carries a deep longing for righteousness and justice. According to tradition, the people rushed out in boats to search for him, beat drums to scare the fish away, and threw zòngzi (sticky rice dumplings) into the water to keep the fish from eating his body. Today, people remember the story through dragon boat races and eating zòngzi.
But in Jesus, Christians see the Righteous One who entered the brokenness of our world not only to grieve it, but to heal it, rescue us, and bring resurrection life. There is no body we need to protect from decay, and no tomb we need to tend, because the One who gave His life for us was raised to life again. So if you have time today, please pray that God would continue to reveal to the people of Taiwan that Jesus was the only one able to truly accomplish what Qu Yuan gave his life for and is the only one able to bring the justice and righteousness that we all long for.
