3/13, I went to the Eid al-Fitr celebration at Daan Park with my migrant worker friends. During our ride to the venue via MRT, we talked about our Ramadan experience. While many people in Taiwan like me fear that they would faint from fasting, my friends just joked that they have been doing this since they were kids! That kind of genuine worry from the Taiwanese is honestly so sweet.
The venue of the celebration at Daan Park is literally another country! There were many people donning their traditional attire. We ordered some Indonesian bentos and desserts, and we just hung around at the venue near the stage, enjoying the music and laughter. Total bliss.
It is through Imigo that I learned how much Taiwan needs these friends. Usually, we are the ones who guide our migrant worker friends through our world; yesterday, I experienced their world. What a meaningful experience!
Definitely bringing a bigger crew next year!

Today, I went to FY2026 “Eid-al-Fitr in Taipei” at Daan Forest Park, and I learnt a lot about people from different cultures.

There were halal food stalls, a diverse marketplace, stage performances, and interactive activities like calligraphy and marbling, there were full of chatters and laughters too!

Besides the food and entertainment, I also noticed booths from travel services, telecom companies, and government agencies offering life tips for foreigners living in Taiwan.

There were lots of people in the park, I saw migrant workers sitting on the grass, eating, chatting, and enjoying the day together. The atmosphere felt so relaxed and warm.

With such nice weather, it was truly a lovely day to experience different cultures coming together ☀️

The online quiz game I designed offered different prizes depending on how well players scored. When I checked the backend after the event, I was blown away — over 400 plays in just one hour. The difficulty level I had carefully tested turned out to be spot on: getting 8 to 10 questions right was no easy feat. The venue was full of students and staff scratching their heads and racking their brains. At one point, I even heard someone yell, "Get the Yale students over here to take this on!" Others even turned to AI for help. Our iMigo team members absolutely crushed it that day!

This experience also got me thinking — what if one day we were the ones organizing an entire large-scale event? Where would we even start? From the organizers, I saw firsthand how a group of students could build an international-level event from the ground up. Everything from venue logistics and time management to coordinating with each booth — these details made our iMigo members reflect on how we can tighten up our own event planning. The handwritten cards from the organizing team were a reminder that no matter how big an event gets, it should never lose that human touch.

From the other exhibiting teams, I noticed how different organizations managed to communicate their mission clearly in a short amount of time and get complete strangers to stop and listen. That was a real takeaway for iMigo — being able to explain what you do in a single sentence is harder and more important than writing an entire proposal.

From the interactions on the floor, I learned that cross-cultural communication isn't just about translating languages — it's about being willing to take that first step. That lines up perfectly with why iMigo exists in the first place: real connection starts with a simple greeting.

We are honored to pass the YMUNT XII selection and to be chosen as one of the eight nonprofit partners. This opportunity allowed us to participate in such a significant event and engage with organizations from diverse schools and fields.

This was also my first time taking part in an event of this scale. Through interacting with various clubs, I didn’t only broaden my perspectives but also learned how different organizations effectively communicate their values and missions to influence more people.

During the event, we introduced migrant workers’ culture and history through interactive quizzes, helping more young people better understand the issues that iMigo focuses on and advocates for. We hope that through these engaging activities, more people will become aware of and recognize iMigo, and even join our club in making a realistic and vibrant life for immigrants in Taiwan!

We were honored to be invited to the 2026 YMUNT Community Fair! A huge thank you to all the YMUNT staff for putting together such an incredible evening full of energy and joy. We also received handwritten cards from the YMUNT team — the warmth behind every word truly touched our hearts. We had the chance to meet so many amazing people from other booths, and we were thrilled to see so many visitors stop by ours. Of course, the real MVP of the night has to be our mini gorilla plushie!

Sharing iMigo's mission with students from around the world sparked meaningful conversations that pushed us to think deeper — how can a project rooted in a local community grow to make an impact on a bigger stage? For our team, this was more than just an exhibition; it was a moment of genuine growth. Connecting with young people from diverse backgrounds reminded us that the most powerful initiatives often begin with actions closest to the community.

"When we say Hello, we also say 你好. When we hand you a map, we also walk with you." At iMigo, we believe that the power of youth is never too small — with just a tap and a greeting, we can bring a little more warmth to the world. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth and took the time to hear our story. This kind of connection is exactly why iMigo exists — bridging the distance between languages and cultures, one friendship at a time.

https://ymunt.org/

iMigo at YMUNT XII Community Fair — Our First Year, Our First Booth

Most of what we do starts from real encounters: making dumplings together, crafting lanterns, sharing everyday stories, and creating spaces where migrant workers feel seen and respected. This time, we want to bring those experiences to more young delegates—so “migrant issues” are no longer distant headlines, but something we can understand, talk about, and act on within our own communities.
At a conference where youth gather to think globally and lead publicly, our goal is simple:
turn big issues into everyday understanding—and turn empathy into action.
Through the Community Fair, we hope more students will learn:
• What migrant workers in Taiwan actually face (and what’s often misunderstood)
• How iMigo builds connection through cultural exchange and community-based activities
• How you can get involved—join an event, volunteer, or start conversations in your own circles
Come visit the iMigo booth at YMUNT!

Stop by to hear stories, learn what we do, and explore how small, consistent actions can make inclusion part of everyday life.

The iMigo volunteer team spent time with immigrant families in Taiwan during the Lantern Festival, sharing culture through meaningful activities. Volunteers introduced simple Chinese terms such as “湯圓” (tangyuan) and “燈籠” (lantern) while helping participants make their own “Horse” lanterns. Through this hands-on activity, everyone had the chance to learn about the traditions of the Lantern Festival while practicing new vocabulary. The event created a warm and welcoming environment where immigrants and volunteers could communicate, laugh, and learn from one another. Making lanterns together not only celebrated an important Taiwanese festival, but also helped participants feel more connected to the local culture and community. Through small activities like this, iMigo hopes to build understanding and friendship between people from diverse backgrounds, while supporting immigrants in Taiwan.

The iMigo volunteer team spend their weekends visiting one of the key gathering spots for migrant workers in Taipei — Taipei Main Station Hall, with its familiar black-and-white checkered floor. This space is not only where migrant workers come to relax and unwind, but also an important place for people to exchange information and share their daily experiences.

In the Taipei Underground Mall, they can also find cuisines from their country. After expressing their feelings and reconnecting with friends, they enjoy a familiar meal. This does more than to fill their stomachs, moreover it helps alleviate their longing for home.

For those working far from their homeland, having a place where they can connect emotionally and rediscover the tastes they miss makes them feel warmth. It also gives them the motivation and strength to keep up the hard work in their work and daily lives.

Last weekend, we hosted a Lantern Festival activity with migrant workers. I expected a simple craft session—teaching the steps, preparing materials, and finishing lanterns—but once it began, I realized the lanterns were lighting up something else: the distance between us quietly growing smaller.
As we worked, we shared the festival’s meaning. The fifteenth day of the first lunar month marks the year’s first full moon, celebrated with lanterns and riddles. We also talked about tangyuan, which symbolizes reunion and completeness. That idea felt especially powerful because for many migrant workers, “reunion” isn’t an easy blessing—it can mean a long wait and the ache of missing home.
This experience reminded me that cultural exchange isn’t just about sharing information. It’s about creating a space where people feel seen, respected, and gently supported—and that’s what iMigo hopes to keep building, one small connection at a time.

Our iMigo volunteers recently took a trip to visit Taichung's "ASEAN Square"! Once a declining area, it has now been transformed into a vibrant and unique commercial district, revitalized by the immense purchasing power and authentic hometown flavors brought by our migrant worker friends.

We explored Southeast Asian supermarkets, tasted authentic cuisines, and deeply felt the diverse energy that is breathing new life into this old city district. It was truly an incredibly rewarding cultural experience!
