UC Berkeley has been named the top public university in the U.S., and No. 7 globally in U.S. News & World Report’s 2026 Best Global Universities rankings.

The rankings also assess a university’s strength in various subject areas. This year, Berkeley was named in the top five globally in a number of subjects, including physics (No. 3), biology and biochemistry (No. 4), economics and business (No. 4), environment/ecology (No. 4), and space science (No. 5).

The best global university list is distinct from the U.S. News & World Report ranking of the best American colleges and universities, which is calculated using different metrics and released each September. Berkeley also claimed the top public institution slot on the latter list in 2025.

【Comedy Mixer: Stand Up with GLOBE】
On May 17, 2026, we welcomed back Professor Matthew Sherburne and the team from Berkeley Engineering’s GLOBE Center to Taiwan for a Comedy Mixer at Two Three Comedy. We were especially grateful that Assistant Vice Chancellor Christine Schmidt joined us as well.
Professor Matthew Sherburne and the GLOBE representatives, Cassie, Dohyun, Gauri, and Sierra shared more about the GLOBE program, its mission, and the meaningful connections it continues to foster between Berkeley Engineering and communities around the world.
The comedy session was hosted by Sam Yarbs, an American stand-up comedian based in Taipei and one of the co-founders of Two Three Comedy. We were thrilled to have him lead the session together with the GLOBE students. Brian and Jack also took the stage and shared their comedy performances with us.
Through laughter, we gained a glimpse into how foreigners view Taiwan — the small yet ironic moments woven into everyday life that often go unnoticed by locals themselves.
