The Association actively promotes play, playful interaction and playthings that are essential to optimal educational, physical, psychological, social and cultural development. ITLA was created in 1990 in Torino during the 5th InternationalToy Library Conference. The Association is registered under Belgian law as a non-profit international organisation open to any association or individual who supports our aims. The Board of Directors of the Association is elected during the General Assembly that takes place every 3 years at International Toy Library Conferences. Board members must be members of ITLA and generally reflect the geographic distribution of members of the Association.

🎉 Happy World Play Day! 🌍

Today, the International Toy Library Association (ITLA) proudly celebrates World Play Day and honors the long history of toy libraries, toy librarians, play advocates, educators, families, and communities who have defended the right to play for decades.

Since the early 2000s — and even long before international recognition — toy libraries and national movements across the world have worked tirelessly to build spaces of peace, inclusion, creativity, dignity, and freedom through play. This journey has never been simple, but together we continue moving forward, convinced that play has the power to connect people, strengthen communities, and create more inclusive societies.

On this World Play Day, we celebrate not only play itself, but also all those who continue every day to make the world more human through play.

Over the past months, the new Board of the has been working on the transition process, strengthening the organisation’s functioning, and modernising several aspects of ITLA’s communication and collaboration tools to better support our global toy library community.

As we continue this new mandate, we also want to make the Board more visible and accessible to members, partners, and toy library networks around the world.

We are therefore pleased to introduce the current ITLA Board members — the people contributing to international cooperation, advocacy, and the promotion of play and toy libraries worldwide. We look forward to connecting, exchanging ideas, and building new collaborations together.

One Month After the ITLA Conference – Thank You & Stay Connected 🌍

It has now been one month since we gathered in Taipei for the 17th International Toy Library Conference, and we are still inspired by the energy, ideas, and connections that emerged from this incredible global moment.

Bringing together 180 participants from countries around the world, the conference truly embodied our shared vision: “Let’s play together”—a powerful reminder that play is a universal right and a driver of inclusion, learning, and community building .

🌍 A new chapter for the ITLA

A meaningful and emotional moment marked the official handover of the presidency of the International Toy Library Association.

Yaël Vergara Alvarez delivered a speech to the community as he stepped into this new role. In his address, he warmly thanked Monica Stach for her dedication, leadership, and the remarkable work she has accomplished for the global toy library movement.

In a world facing growing challenges — polarization, inequalities, and social exclusion — his message was clear:

✨ Toy libraries are spaces of freedom, inclusion, and peace
✨ They create connections, empower communities, and foster learning
✨ They offer a joyful and collective response to today’s challenges
✨️ More than ever, playing together is a powerful act.

This new presidency begins with a strong belief in the collective strength, diversity, and growing energy of the ITLA network across all continents.

👉 The journey continues — together. Rendez-vous is given in Colombia for the 18th ITLC.

We are pleased to announce that the next International Toy Library Association Conference will take place in Bogotá, Colombia. 🇨🇴

After an inspiring gathering in Taipei, our global community will meet again in Latin America to continue strengthening the international toy library movement. Bogotá will host toy librarians, researchers, practitioners, and advocates from around the world to share experiences, innovations, and visions for the future of play.

We look forward to continuing this journey together—celebrating diversity, cooperation, and the powerful role of play in building inclusive and connected communities.
