我們是一群關心台灣美麗海域的台灣人.近日來,俏江南和香港半島酒店等著名餐廳決定將海洋生態的永續和用餐客人的健康擺第一,不再販售魚翅等有關的產品.
作為亞洲最活躍的經濟體之一,台灣政府該急起直追,並跟隨世界先進國家的腳步,開始保育鯊魚這種絕頂聰明卻極為遭到誤解的動物.鯊魚對於維持海洋生態和珊瑚礁生態平衡極為重要,但全球的鯊魚物種有百分之九十五以上卻因為亞洲對魚翅羹的需求而遭血腥屠殺.台灣的各個五星級飯店,很不幸地,就是鯊魚滅種的元凶之一.
我們無法坐視海洋生態遭破壞而不採取行動.沒有了海洋,人類也就沒有未來.一個失去鯊魚的海洋,不是我們該留給後輩子孫的"遺贈".因此我們在此籲請大家,加入保護海洋的行列,並也在此同意,支持哥斯大黎加和尼加拉瓜政府將國家領海中大肆獵捕鯊魚的非法台灣漁船趕出去! We the undersigned Taiwanese nationals, residents a
nd friends applaud your recent moves to tighten up the laws on shark finning, and we applaud the fact that in changing the fishery laws you are placing Taiwan at the forefront of Asia being the first country in Asia to tighten its laws in such a way, in so doing giving more sharks a fighting chance to keep their fins, survive as the oceans
historical keepers and give them a liitle more of the protection that they so urgently need around the worlds oceans. As a next step, we would call on you to again make Taiwan the front runner in Asia, and remove shark fin soup and by products from sharks completely from the menus of all restaurants on the streets and in hotels in Taipei. Such a removal from Taipei would of course further protect sharks, but we believe would also earn the Taiwan Government and people massive global respect, as although Taiwan is a nation surrounded by ocean with a shark fishery, your recognition that 'shark finning' is a scenario that is causing a growing global out cry, and needs action, and would show Asia and the world that Taiwan and
it's capital city of Taipei would once again be leading the way in Asia. Asking for protection of sharks, and removal of shark fin soup from menus is not an attack on culture as some non supporters advocate, as Taiwan culture is built on many admirable and respected traditions, which we, as signatories on the petition respect, and which we confirm does not want tainting by the slaughter of sharks for bowl of soup which can be replaced by sustainable products. Let's show the world and Asia, that Taipei can lead the way in Asia, and let's get Shark fins and Shark by products off the menu.
