At a meeting with Venerable Master Cheng Yen, a Tzu Chi Collegiate Alumni member shared that while Tzu Chi needs young people, young people also need Tzu Chi. Through volunteering with Tzu Chi, they can find direction in life, learn to be grateful, cherish what they have, and reach out to more people in need. The Master also encouraged Tzu Chi Collegiate Alumni to share their experiences with younger collegiate volunteers and inspire more young people to serve. Let's take a listen!

To escape the war in Syria, Ali and his family fled to Turkey. Instead of sitting in a classroom like other children his age, he was forced to leave school and work as a child laborer. During a meeting with staff from Tzu Chi Foundation, Venerable Master Cheng Yen recalled how in 1990, when her mentor, Venerable Yin Shun, needed emergency brain surgery, she anxiously reached out to doctors and helped arrange his transfer. She only felt relieved when she heard he was safe. Now, 21 years after his passing, his teaching—to work for Buddhism and for all living beings—remains deeply in her heart.
