Taiwanese cinema continues to make waves on the international stage!

The 74th San Sebastian International Film Festival (SSIFF) is rolling out its official selection, and we are thrilled to announce that two Taiwanese films—Will You Still Be My Friend and Dust—have been selected for different sections.

▍ New Directors

𝙒𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙎𝙩𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝘽𝙚 𝙈𝙮 𝙁𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙙 | LU Po-Shun｜Taiwan-Singapore Co-production
Director Lu Po-shun’s feature debut, Will You Still Be My Friend, has been officially selected for the New Directors competition—currently the only Taiwanese film in this section this year!

Co-invested by Kaohsiung Film Fund and TAICCA, the film also previously participated in TAICCA School's 2023 Ties That Bind workshop. It has continued to gain steady momentum on the international industry circuit this year, earning selections at major project markets including EFM's "Far East in Progress WIP", HAF WIP in Hong Kong, and the Marché du Film's "Goes to Cannes." Building on this growing international attention, it now takes the stage at San Sebastián.

A Taiwan-Spain co-production, Dust has been selected for the Zabaltegi-Tabakalera section. Following its recent selection for the Out of Competition lineup at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, the film has now earned recognition from two of Europe's top-tier festivals.

🎉 Congratulations to HONEY MILK on winning the top award at BICM’s Asian Project Pitching!

Produced by and written and directed by , HONEY MILK received the BICM Asian Project Award—the highest honor at the Asian Project Pitching section of the 2026 Bangkok International Content Market (BICM)! 🏆
​
This year marked the first collaboration between TAICCA SCHOOL, Thailand’s Creative Economy Agency (CEA), and BICM. An open call invited teams that had previously participated in TAICCA SCHOOL’s feature film and series development workshops to submit their projects.
​
Following a selection process led by professionals from Thailand’s film and television industry, two projects were chosen to represent Taiwan and pitch on the international stage in Bangkok.
​
HONEY MILK previously received support from TAICCA’s Creative Content Development Program Development Fund (CCDP) and participated in the TIES THAT BIND Asia-Europe Co-Production Workshop.
​
After undergoing early-stage development and pitch refinement, the project stood out among strong projects from across Asia. The award recognizes its compelling storytelling and international market potential, bringing another original Taiwanese story to the global industry stage. ✨
​
From early-stage development and professional workshops to exchanges with international mentors and opportunities to pitch at global markets, TAICCA continues to connect talent development with industry and market resources. Through these efforts, we support promising Taiwanese projects in pursuing international partnerships, investment, and co-production opportunities.

Beyond project pitches and content showcases, TAICCA has lined up a series of during Mifa. Our goal is to help Taiwanese animation teams connect with industry peers from around the world and explore new possibilities together.
​
This year, we are partnering with major film and audiovisual agencies—including France’s Unifrance, New Zealand’s NZFC, Australia’s AUSFILM, the Philippines’ FDCP, Japan’s VIPO, and delegation from Colombia. Through various matchmaking events, we aim to deepen mutual understanding of co-production frameworks, market resources, and industry networks.

As these networking events unfold throughout the market, Taiwanese creators are meeting face-to-face with international partners. They are sharing market trends, learning about each other's co-production models, and sparking meaningful dialogues for future licensing and business opportunities.

The Inaugural TCCF Prize Winner Revealed: From Annecy to TCCF! 🏆

As the 2026 Mifa wrapped up, we are thrilled to announce the winner of the first-ever TCCF Prize, a landmark collaboration between Mifa Pitches and the Taiwan Creative Content Fest (TCCF)! ✨
​
👏 Massive congratulations to 𝘈𝘤𝘩𝘶𝘨𝘰𝘨𝘰: 𝘛𝘢𝘭𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘴𝘦𝘳—an epic fantasy project co-produced across France, South Africa, and the USA!

This striking original animation follows three isolated siblings forged from iron and magic as they battle winter-bearing titans to save their world from an Eternal Winter.
​
Standing out among fierce global competition, the project completely won over the jury with its highly distinctive visual identity, experienced creative team, and mature market readiness. By cleverly targeting both feature film and series formats, 𝘈𝘤𝘩𝘶𝘨𝘰𝘨𝘰: 𝘛𝘢𝘭𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘴𝘦𝘳 demonstrates an exceptional IP strategy with massive potential for international growth – making it exactly the kind of project TCCF is looking for.

🏆 Winning the TCCF Prize is just the beginning of this global journey. The creative team will travel to Taiwan this November for 2026 TCCF, joining pitch sessions, industry workshops, and international matchmaking events to collaborate with Taiwan’s top animation talent and studios.

Furthermore, to fuel this cross-border momentum, the project will be eligible for up to NT$3 million in funding through TAICCA’s Creative Content Development Program (CCDP) when partnering with Taiwanese creators.

Spotlights on! Five exceptional Taiwanese animation teams took the Mifa pitch stage today, presenting their original stories to global producers, buyers, and industry partners, showcasing Taiwan’s massive potential in the international market.
​
The "Toon Up Taiwan! Taiwan Pitch Showcase" marks a milestone in talent cultivation co-launched by TAICCA and GOBELINS Paris. Through a rigorous nine-month intensive workshop, creators leveled up every facet of their projects—from story development to global pitching strategies. Bringing their presentation bibles straight to Mifa directly unlocks opportunities for international co-productions, financing, and distribution.

Whittled down from 15 emerging teams through rounds of expert mentorship and visual refining, these final five projects blended local cultural roots with global market appeal on the Annecy stage:

🌵 Hwa's Going On
Director ​ Pin-Yu CHANG pitched a charming adventure about a long-legged cactus and three pet ducks. This heartwarming stop-motion series combines needle felt and fabric textures to craft a poetic, healing world with immense character IP potential.
​
🦫 Leco's Rolling Home
Creator Manffy LAI introduced a preschool series starring a nomadic family of Formosan flying squirrels. Driven by a "sensory × emotional" narrative, the show guides kids through nature while transforming a native species into a globally accessible preschool IP.
​
👵 My Loopy Granny
Producer Ying-Chieh HUANG and Writer Sing-ing CHANG presented a 2D comedy series set against rural Taiwan. Following a whimsical adventure between a girl and her grandmother, it beautifully explores intergenerational empathy and is actively seeking global co-productions.
​
🦦 Olu, The Treasure Seeker
Inspired by Kinmen Island and its native Eurasian otters, Director Esmee HUANG leads audiences on a poetic coming-of-age journey to find "home." The project seamlessly weaves local ecology and heritage with a profound humanistic touch.

👽 TraTra & MuuMuu
Producer Hu -Ling LO alongside Directors Yu-Hong CHEN and Ying-Wen LAI debuted their latest original series. Blending 2D hand-drawn animation with mixed media, they have built a highly imaginative cosmic universe, continuing the studio's global momentum.

🏆 And the Grand Prize goes to... "Hwa's Going On"!
The international jury unanimously praised the cohort's high professional standard, noting that every single project is fully primed for further development and global financing.
​
"Hwa's Going On" stood out with its poetic world-building and the signature warmth of stop-motion. The jury admitted they "immediately fell in love with Hwa and the ducks," confident the series will find its unique place in the global market.
​
Director Pin-Yu CHANG shared: "It feels like the project truly has a life of its own. Thank you to Hwa and the ducks for taking me this far." From a graduation short to an internationally recognized title in three years, this journey perfectly proves the power of pairing raw creative drive with structured industry incubation.
