We should examine and contemplate in this way: if external appearances were truly one’s own mind, they would necessarily change in accordance with oneself. When oneself exists, external appearances should exist; when oneself does not exist, external appearances should likewise disappear. However, upon careful examination, one discovers the contradiction in such a position. Therefore, the assertion that appearances are the mind cannot withstand analysis.
