獅潭社區位於苗栗縣頭屋鄉獅潭村，在日據時代舊名「外獅潭」乃因區內有一山形似獅頭，且村中有一深潭（已成農田）故名「獅潭」，又為了與獅潭鄉區別，因其位置較西，故名「外獅潭」。早期農民利用水車或人力取水灌溉，因水車遍布之景，又名「山麓田水車村」。
獅潭社區沒有壯麗的山水，但可能是您流連忘返的地方，社區營造已在丘陵部分設置休閒步道、濕地園區、蝴蝶園區；田園部分有機與無毒農田生產；水圳部分以生態工法來存養蝦、蟹、魚、蜆、螺等生物，所以春天的山區步道有桂竹筍向您招手、夏天一波波的稻浪隨風飆舞、秋天大閘蟹呼喚著您、冬天蘿蔔風情等著您，加上四季的景色、生態，社區全年充滿活力。社區歡迎團體參訪，可以協助安排休閒行程，包含休閒步道、生態導覽、客家風味餐、美食點心DIY、手工藝DIY等等，依據時節及參訪時機做適度調整，歡迎來體驗這個溫馨的社區。。
