John Walz Taiwan June 2025 Prayer Letter -

We are now just weeks away from returning to Taiwan! Our departure is scheduled for July 30th, and as you can imagine, much is happening as we prepare to leave.

🙌 Answered Prayer for Ian
We want to pause and thank God, and thank all of you who have been praying with us for Ian.

For months, we’ve been asking the Lord to provide someone to help with Ian’s schooling and care when we return to Taiwan. And He has answered!

🎉 A young lady from our church — who also feels called toward full-time ministry — has arranged to come with us for this school semester to help our family and serve Ian.

Her willingness is an answer to prayer and a great encouragement to us.

🙏 Please continue to pray — as we look ahead, we know this is a position that will need to be filled in the following years. But for now, we’re rejoicing in how the Lord has provided for this season.

God hears. God provides. Thank you for lifting us up.

Luke & Emily Ganson — Almost There!
Four weeks ago, Luke and Emily Ganson stepped out in faith to raise the support needed for their six-month internship in Taiwan.

Today, we’re rejoicing — they’re now at 80% of the financial support needed to go!

🎉 God has opened doors.
📦 Churches and individuals have responded.
🙏 And your prayers have made a difference.

They are preparing to serve alongside us, learn the rhythms of missions, and be part of launching the next season of Gospel ministry in Kaohsiung.

Would you continue praying as they raise the final 20% in the coming weeks?
Let’s help them get all the way to the field.

What God Is Doing in Shawnee, Ohio
Our time in Glouster and Shawnee has been limited, but we’ve seen God move in ways we couldn’t plan or produce. Here's how it all began:

We started by praying for a burden.

Then we asked God to initiate the work — in His time, in His way.

We held a community fish fry that drew around 100 people.

From that, we began Bible studies and shared the Gospel personally.

The studies continue every week in Shawnee, and more people are hearing the Gospel as friends invite friends.

Several professions of faith have been made, and we’re walking with them as they take next steps.

Dekota, the young man God used to start this, is now receiving training and wants to be used of God.

We haven’t had much time to invest here, but we’ve seen the Lord’s hand in this small village and in the families responding to the Gospel.

As we prepare to return to Taiwan, I carry a bit of pain in leaving this group behind. God is not done here.

🙏 Would you pray for Dekota and for the work in Shawnee, Ohio?
God wants to do more.

Our return to Taiwan is now just a little over two months away. Tickets are purchased. Paperwork is underway. Boxes are being packed. There’s a lot to get done—but even more to pray over.

As we get ready, we’re also preparing for Church Plant #6. We haven’t picked the location yet—we want to see where God is already working. Our heart is to meet someone hungry for truth, to begin Bible study in their home or a rented space, and to see the Gospel take root in a new part of the city.

Would you pray with us that:

God would guide us to the right neighborhood

He would raise up a faithful co-laborer to help start the work

Souls would be saved and discipled in this next season

We’ve seen what God can do with a single open heart. Now we’re asking Him to do it again.

Thank you for standing with us.

🙏 Pray for Church Plant #6 — We’re Asking God to Lead
We’ve started churches in living rooms and in rented spaces. The location has never been the focus — what matters most is where God blesses.

As we prepare to return to Taiwan, we’re asking the Lord to make it clear where Church Plant #6 should begin. We don’t know the exact place yet, but we’re ready to walk, meet, and pray through our city again — and watch for where the Spirit moves.

Here’s how you can pray with us:

That God would direct us to the right area of the city

That He would raise up someone to help us with this new church plant

That we would see souls saved and discipled as we begin the work

We don’t want to move just because we have momentum.
We want to move because God is moving.

Thank you for praying. Thank you for partnering. Let’s ask great things of a great God.

Church Planting Starts at Home
Here’s something I’ve learned over time:
It’s always better to start with a family, or a few young men, who are willing to meet for Bible study in their home.

When someone opens their home, place of work, or personal space for the Lord, they’re already learning to be hospitable—without me needing to say a word. And something powerful happens when the Word of God is taught where they live and work: it’s no longer disconnected from real life.

A church building, for many, feels foreign. It’s easy to compartmentalize spiritual things to one location, one time a week. But when Jesus is taught in their living room, He becomes part of their home—not just a name they hear once a week in a place they don't live their life in.

Is it just a minor detail that almost everywhere Jesus went, it was in someone’s home?

If we want lasting churches, we should teach Jesus where people actually live.

Vision for Church Plant #6 — Where Will God Lead Next?
Every church plant we’ve started in Kaohsiung began the same way:
👣 New friends.
📖 Discipleship.
🛐 Prayer walks.

Through experience, it’s clear that God has been pleased to work through these means to bring about new churches in the city.

Our first survey trip through Kaohsiung was over ten years ago.
A lot has changed. Neighborhoods have shifted. The people are different. We’ll need to walk the streets again, pray, and ask the Lord for direction.

Where will the Holy Spirit lead us next?
Who will we meet?
Who will hear the Gospel?
And who will God raise up as the next soldier for Him?

Church planting is hard work, but it is exciting and rewarding.
We Get To.
