五指山，我們大家的故鄉，一個讓您流連忘返的美麗新竹內花園 傳說在清朝道光15年(1835年)，有一位地理師鍾川明從唐山來台灣，在竹南中港溪登岸，再朝月眉溪(今之峨嵋溪)前進，輾轉中眺望遠山，似乎就是自己要尋找的山，再前進往「象棋林」(現今竹東鎮)至北埔庄，發現鐘靈毓秀的山，又形似五指遂取名為五指山。
