Phillip, in memory of Yohance' Phillip (brother) 27.12.78 - 03.06.2010 a
nd Mervyn Phillip (father) 23.08.44 - 26.05.2011. Mervyn was not shot himself but witnessed a shooting at his home and suffered a massive heart attack as a result. Our brother was shot nine (9) times by an unknown assailant and died later at the hospital. Yohance's wonderful son Danniel - 4.5 years old and Wife Vishalla was left to pick up the pieces just like many of the hundreds of victims. My Father was married to Jasmine Jeffrey Phillip who is an advocate with TTAAAGV. As of today, February 21st 2013 there has been 69 murders in Trinidad and Tobago 60 of which has been gun violence related. Citizens of this country live in constant fear. Our Politicians and lawmakers have failed us terribly. We don't know what to do and who to turn to. There is no plan to measure the success of the strategies to resolve crime and gun violence in this country. The Government has no plans to get illegal guns off the streets; no plans for a gun amnesty, no special unit of the police service to get the guns, no special intelligence unit to intercept the gangs, no new technology - NOTHING. We just wait every morning to report on the new victims of gun violence. TTAAAGV is a small non governmental organization (NGO) and we want to run campaigns to educate the public, to provide support to victims and to work with lawmakers to develop programs to help the impoverished youth. This year already we have had the murder of 5 teenagers most quite innocently. Last year we had the murder of two boys 10 years of age. This affects us all badly.
