Shani Jayanti is observed on Saturday, May 16, 2026. The festival falls on the Amavasya tithi of Jyeshtha month, and because it falls on a Saturday in 2026, it holds special spiritual importance for many devotees.

Shani Jayanti is celebrated to honor the birth of Lord Shani, who is considered one of the most powerful among the Navagrahas, the nine planetary deities in Hindu tradition. Shani Dev is often misunderstood as a deity who only brings hardship, delays, and struggles. However, the deeper spiritual meaning of Shani Dev is very different.

Shani Dev is not seen as cruel; rather, he is believed to be strict, fair, and impartial. He rewards truth, discipline, hard work, humility, and righteousness. At the same time, he teaches lessons to those who act with ego, dishonesty, laziness, injustice, or carelessness. This is why Shani Dev is also called the Lord of Justice and Karma.

The real meaning of Shani Jayanti goes far beyond rituals. It teaches that life is governed by karma. Every action, word, and intention has consequences. Shani Dev represents the universal law that nothing goes unnoticed.

This festival encourages people to ask themselves important questions:

Are we living honestly?

Are we fulfilling our responsibilities?

Are we treating others with fairness?

Are we using power, money, and knowledge with humility?

Are we patient during difficult times?

Shani Jayanti reminds us that challenges are not always punishments. Sometimes, they are lessons that help us become stronger, wiser, and more disciplined. Shani Dev’s blessings may not always appear as immediate success. Sometimes, his blessings come in the form of maturity, endurance, clarity, and inner strength.

Aunty Molly- A blessed soul.

The soul can never be cut to pieces by any weapon, nor burned by fire, nor moistened by water, nor withered by the wind.

'Navraatri' means 'nine nights.' 'Nava' means 'nine,’ and 'Raatri' means 'night.'
Devi represents the omnipresent cosmic Energy. The whole Creation is permeated by this Energy.

Devi Puja is an expression of expanded consciousness showing reverence to the whole Creation. The puja that we perform during the 9 days of Navraatri is a way of honouring the Devi and showing our gratitude to the Mother Divine. While attending the puja we give up all our worldly activities for a while and enter into deep meditation.

“There is Devi energy (Shakti) within all of us. Devi is not somewhere else, not in some other world. If we sit deep in meditation, the glow within the body will brighten, and will expand and spread outside. This is Devi Puja.”

Significance:
Night provides rest and rejuvenation. During the night, you turn inwards through sleep, and you wake up feeling refreshed and rested in the morning.
In the same way, Navraatri or the ‘nine nights’ is that time of the year when you get the chance to experience deep rest. This deep rest brings freedom from all kinds of botheration, deep relaxation, and creativity.
Fasting, meditation, prayers, and other spiritual practices performed during this period help bring about this deep rest. Even refraining from over-indulging in sensual objects during this time aid the process of attaining deep rest.
