Sangre Grande Conservation Awareness Group

Sangre Grande Conservation Awareness Group Our aim is to preserve biodiversity, fostering sustainable practices within our district. EST 2015

We are a non governmental organization based in Sangre Grande , with our focus on North east Trinidad . Founded in 2015 for the purpose of conservation and preservation. We believe that North East Trinidad is one of the fastest developing districts and without consideration and respect for the environment many issues can and will arise. It has become clear that biodiversity is the cornerstone of o

ur existence on Earth. It is also important to conserve biodiversity for the sake of our own curiosity and aesthetic appreciation. We believe that conservation and preservation of North East Trinidad is very important as some of the last intact, untouched ecosystems are being threatened. What we are proud of

1) Our group has successfully removed large amounts coastal pollution from beaches along east Trinidad with the help of villagers within those areas.

2) through networking with local farmers we have been able to bring awareness about the importance of minimizing soil erosion, and chemical contaminants leaching into aquifers.

3) All of our conservation efforts are funded out of pocket or from funds generated from our products and services that we offer. products/services

Chaguaramas bunkers are remnants of the US Navy Base established during WWII (1940–1963) to protect Allied interests in the Caribbean, particularly oil supplies.

Following the 1940 "Destroyers for Bases" agreement, the U.S. transformed the peninsula into a major naval and air base.

Built by the U.S. Military to protect the Caribbean sea lanes and the largest oil refinery in the British Empire from German warships and U-boats

While some bunkers are forgotten or overgrown with vines , others remain accessible to hikers and tourists, serving as a silent testament to Trinidad's strategic role in World War II

Similar WWII-era underground bunkers were also constructed by the US military in other parts of the island, such as Green Hill in Cedros

(Tour guide Liz stands in front one of several bunkers within the Tucker valley)
