Getting a dog is not a temporary phase, a cute impulse, or something you only commit to when life feels easy.

To a dog, you are family for their entire life. 🐾

They don’t stop loving you when they get older.
When they need medication.
When accidents happen.
When they slow down.
When life becomes inconvenient.

Dogs stay loyal through every chapter without ever questioning whether they still belong with you.

That’s why it’s heartbreaking when some people treat dogs as disposable once circumstances change.

A puppy eventually becomes a senior dog.
The energetic little companion who once zoomed around the house may someday struggle to climb stairs or need help getting into the car. But that stage of life doesn’t make them less worthy of love. If anything, it’s when they need us the most.

Real love means staying.

It means showing up for the vet visits, the training, the messes, the aging, the hard days, and the goodbye that eventually breaks your heart.

Because dogs don’t give us conditional love.

They love us completely their entire lives without asking for much in return besides safety, comfort, and being near the people they trust.

And honestly, I think if we choose to bring a dog into our lives, they deserve that same lifelong commitment back. ❤️

The Trinidad and Tobago Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is calling for an urgent review of the Dog Control Act and the enforcement mechanisms needed to properly enact the law.

Too often, dangerous situations involving uncontrolled, neglected, abused, or roaming dogs continue without effective intervention or accountability.

Legislation alone is not enough, there must also be clear enforcement, public education, proper resources, and action taken when laws are breached.

We believe stronger implementation and collaboration between authorities, communities, and animal welfare organizations are essential to improving public safety and animal welfare across Trinidad and Tobago. 🐾

It is time for meaningful action, responsible pet ownership, and laws that are actively enforced, not just written on paper.
