Executive Director of the Caribbean Water and Wastewater Association (CWWA), Ms. Laurayne Lucky, and Response Lead for the Caribbean Water Utilities Insurance Collective (CWUIC), Ms. Shamila Ragoobir, toured the humanitarian support vessel MV DAWN on Wednesday, June 10, 2026.
The tour was facilitated by Ms. Christa Cook, WASH Specialist with Global Support and Development (GSD), and provided the CWUIC response team with an opportunity to learn more about the vesselโs capabilities and its role in supporting disaster response efforts throughout the Caribbean.
Currently docked in Grenada, the MV DAWN is an 80-metre humanitarian support vessel operated by the non-profit organization Global Support and Development (GSD). The vessel was purpose-built to assist island nations by providing immediate post-disaster relief, including emergency communications support, potable water production and distribution services, and accredited laboratory facilities for water quality testing.
The MV DAWN and its crew played a critical role in post-impact response efforts in Jamaica following Hurricane Melissa in 2025, providing essential support to affected communities and utility operators.
The CWWA, Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), CWUIC, and GSD maintain an ongoing partnership focused on strengthening disaster preparedness, response, and resilience across the Caribbean. The visit to the vessel underscored the importance of collaboration among regional and international partners in enhancing the capacity of Caribbean utilities to respond to emergencies and natural disasters.
Ms. Lucky was in Grenada on an official visit to meet with members of the Local Organizing Committee as preparations continue for the hosting of the 35th Annual CWWA Conference and Exhibition, which will be held in Grenada from October 12-16, 2026 at the beautiful Radisson Grenada Beach Resort.
