Today, we give our President, Luke James-Trim, his flowers. 🌺
For the upcoming semester, Tobago students studying in Trinidad will officially benefit from grocery assistance and inter-island travel support, a major step forward in ensuring that Tobagonian students can pursue tertiary education with greater stability and dignity.
This development was confirmed by Secretary for Youth Empowerment and Sport, Mr. Keigon Denoon, during a Tobago House of Assembly press conference held yesterday. The Secretary announced the establishment of a Youth Development Fund(YDF) , which will support young Tobagonians through assistance to youth organisations and food voucher support for university students.
Key details include:
• A committee will be established before the end of March to assess funding applications.
• Students will be able to apply ahead of the September academic semester.
For the past three years, Luke James-Trim has dedicated his leadership to advocating for the rights and wellbeing of Tobago students pursuing tertiary education in Trinidad. As the founder of this Association, he transformed its mission from one centered solely on cultural connection and community into a dynamic institution that actively supports students.
Under his leadership, the Association has:
• Provided meaningful student support and advocacy.
• Created greater access to internship opportunities.
• Represented students in cases of unfair treatment by accommodation managers.
• Contributed to increasing the population of Tobagonian students at the UWI St. Augustine campus.
• Inspired a new generation of young people to take pride in being from Tobago.
Today we celebrate not just a milestone, but the impact of persistent advocacy and visionary youth leadership.
Luke, we thank you.
We honour you.
You are the moment. ✨
