Held under the theme “𝐿𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑔𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑃𝑟𝑜𝑏𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛, 𝑃𝑎𝑟𝑜𝑙𝑒 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑅𝑒ℎ𝑎𝑏𝑖𝑙𝑖𝑡𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑎𝑠 𝐸𝑓𝑓𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑣𝑒 𝐶𝑟𝑖𝑚𝑒-𝑅𝑒𝑑𝑢𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑆𝑡𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑔𝑖𝑒𝑠 𝑖𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐶𝑎𝑟𝑖𝑏𝑏𝑒𝑎𝑛,” the conference brought together practitioners, policymakers and researchers from across the region to share knowledge and explore evidence-based approaches to probation, parole, rehabilitation, reintegration and community corrections.

For Vision on Mission, the conference provided an important opportunity to learn from regional experiences, strengthen relationships with justice and rehabilitation partners, and explore opportunities for collaboration focused on community-based rehabilitation, reducing reoffending and strengthening public safety.

The knowledge, insights and regional connections gained will contribute to VOM’s ongoing work in prison reform, rehabilitation, reintegration and the development of effective community-based approaches in Trinidad and Tobago.

We are proud to be part of a growing regional conversation that recognizes the importance of rehabilitation, accountability, second chances and stronger communities in advancing safer Caribbean societies.

𝐏𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞. 𝐏𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥. 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.

On Tuesday, 18 August 2026, Vision on Mission CEO, Giselle Mashama, had the privilege of engaging with the young people of the Maraval Paramin Police Youth Club and our IGNITE 360 family.

The session focused on two powerful themes: “𝐏𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞 – 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐖𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧” and “𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐁𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧.”

Through meaningful conversation and reflection, the youths were encouraged to look within, discover their purpose, understand the motivations behind their choices, and recognize the power they have to shape their own futures.

At Vision on Mission, we believe that crime prevention begins with positive intervention, meaningful engagement and empowering our nation’s youth with the knowledge, confidence and support to make positive choices.

We remain committed to partnering with communities and stakeholders to prevent crime, deter risky behaviours and positively impact the lives of young people across Trinidad and Tobago.

When young people discover their purpose, they can discover their power.

Community partnership in action at La Horquetta!

On Saturday, 15th August 2026, Vision on Mission joined the La Horquetta Police Station, Greenvale Park Police Youth Club, and residents of the surrounding community for a Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) exercise at the unfinished Community Centre on Cove Avenue, Greenvale Park, La Horquetta.

Approximately 20 participants came together to clear overgrown vegetation and accumulated debris from the property, improving visibility from the roadway and strengthening natural surveillance—an important CPTED principle that helps communities deter criminal and antisocial activity.

Vision on Mission was represented by Chairman Dr. Oluyemi Mashama, alongside programme participants Mr. S. Daniel, Mr. Farrell, Mr. Ali and Mr. John. Their participation is a powerful example of how rehabilitation and reintegration can provide individuals with opportunities to make meaningful, positive contributions to their communities.

Led by Sgt. Steele, Officer in Charge of the La Horquetta Police Station, with support from Cpl. Kingston and other officers, the exercise brought together law enforcement, young people, residents and rehabilitation programme participants around one shared goal: a safer La Horquetta.

While further work remains, the first phase has already made a significant portion of the property more visible and accessible. Another community exercise is planned to complete the clearance.

At Vision on Mission, we believe community safety is a shared responsibility. Through rehabilitation, reintegration, youth engagement, environmental improvement and strong community partnerships, we can help create safer, stronger and more resilient communities.

VISION ON MISSION RECEIVES TECHNOLOGY DONATION FROM THE IDB

Vision on Mission extends its heartfelt appreciation to the Inter-American Development Bank Trinidad and Tobago Country Office for its generous donation of12 laptops, 12 monitors, and 12 HDMI cables, which were officially handed over to our organization on August 6, 2026.

VOM will use the donated equipment to establish a Computer and Training Lab at Vision on Mission’s Wallerfield Rehabilitation and Reintegration Center.

This new lab will give our clients, including people who were formerly incarcerated or deported, the chance to learn computer and technological skills, as well as take other personal development courses. Having access to technology and hands-on training helps people improve their job prospects, build confidence, learn new skills, and succeed in their rehabilitation and reintegration.

We truly appreciate the IDB for supporting our clients’ growth and for partnering with Vision on Mission as we work to change lives and help build safer communities in T&T.
