Before Father’s Day comes to an end, we must pause, genuflect, and pay homage to our final foundational pillar. This outstanding stalwart has left an indelible mark on us and by extension, Trinidad and Tobago. 🌟

Many titles can be ascribed to our stalwart of this magnitude, and we invite you to share yours in the comments below. Yet, the permanent title etched into our company’s history books for this magnificent human being is our Honorary Lifetime Artistic Director. We are talking about our MENtor and dear friend, Louis McWilliams.
👑
It is only fitting that Louis be honored today, as his love for being a father and a doting grandfather comes first. But make no mistake, Louis has also been a father figure to us from the moment he took the reins as the Artistic Director of Malick Folk Performing Company. For that choice, and for his enduring stewardship, we are eternally grateful.🙏🏽

Any attempt to fill the shoes of our founder, the visionary, the iconic Norvan Fullerton, would give most people stage fright. But Fuller’s eye for talent has always been unmatched. He recognized a colossal creative talent in Louis and entrusted him with a monumental task: to chart, protect, and elevate the artistic legacy of MFPC. Trust me, he did not let us down.💯

Louis became a member of MFPC as Artistic Director in 2002 and was surrounded by a batch of young, talented, and creative members who were thirsty for new material. Louis was excited to get the ball rolling and took us on a journey none of us saw coming. 🔥

From spearheading original work for our tour to Germany for the World Cup to achieving a record-breaking 13 victories in the Theatre Category of the Prime Minister’s Best Village Trophy Competition, the masterclass of Louis’ craft made the impossible happen. 💥

Louis’ creative process is a sight to behold. He doesn’t just direct, he teaches. Every rehearsal was a T&T history class wrapped up in a bow. One legendary memory Louis shared was his first time winning the PMBV Theatre category with our production, “Little Man”. Oh man! You had to be there! This production was dripping with music, dance, and drama. Another MFPC production dear to his heart is the restaging of “Obeah,” which has won competitions and thrilled audiences alike. Any production that’s dripping in Calypso has Louis’ signature all over it. 💖

His ultimate vision is to see his artistic work and teachings passed on to the younger generation. Today, he stands proud that this succession planning is in full effect within MFPC’s Junior Company. Looking at our current mentors, he feels an immense sense of pride that they are the dedicated guardians ensuring that the flame of MFPC’s legacy continues to burn brilliantly into the future. With the company now bursting with an extraordinary wealth of fresh, young talent, Louis encourages a grand resurgence of theatrical productions, eager to watch this new generation leave their own indelible mark on the stage.😇

For the next generation aspiring toward a lifetime of passion and enduring success, his counsel is absolute: remain committed to your craft, knowing that sacrifice and hard work are the silent seeds of future triumph.🤩

And, of course, he must include his ultimate, holy mantra, the gospel we live by: “Trust the Process.”😎

We salute you, Louis. You didn't just direct us on the stage; you fathered our creativity and nurtured our passion. We are eternally grateful for your vision, your sacrifice, and your profound friendship. 😍

To our mentor, our patriarch, and our Honorary Lifetime Artistic Director—we salute you!❤️🤍🖤

🎶“Down by the beach beneath the coconut tree, is where I first met my dark-eyed baby.
The moon was bright and so silvery, memories like these brings me misery.
Oh, pretty dark-eyed baby, come back, why did you leave me?
Remember what we used to do, under the coconut tree.” 🎶

Before Bruno Mars even locked down a note, we had our very own R&B star who possessed his own 24k magic! A star who sang oh so sweetly that he had the lovely ladies blushing on cue! This powerhouse in a pint-sized package has stood by us through the test of time. Truly, any performance without his voice illuminating our dances so beautifully would be a dance in the dark. Of course, we are speaking about our chantuelle extraordinaire, the one and only, John Moore.👑

John was a member of the now-defunct band called the Torpedoes, but it was in 1979 that John’s legacy with us began to take root. He became a founding member of our Company, and aligned his brilliant talents with our founder, Mr. Norvan Fullerton’s vision for the company. He was committed to our collective mission, cementing his legacy for generations to come.🤩

One of John’s noteworthy roles was in MFPC’s 1986 production, “Obeah”, where he portrayed the memorable character Sweet Man Doray. It’s a fitting name for such a dou-dou darling and a voice as velvety as midnight. But it is his rendition of the calypso icon, Lord Baker’s song from 1967, God Bless Our Nation, that still gives us goosebumps. John’s rendition married with our dance perfectly, encapsulating everything we loved about our country. To hear John is to hear a man who has a fierce sense of patriotic pride in his heart. He reminds us, note by note, that our company is a sanctuary where all ethnicities, talents, or views can all live together as one. 💖

John’s voice literally carries every performance forward and he has been a part of our tourist shows since 1995. He has toured the world on every stage imaginable, and his timeless melodies are forever etched in our history books as the gold standard of vocal excellence. 🇹🇹

We thank you John for a voice that simply refuses to age, your cheeky, hilarious PG13 songs that have us all bursting at the seams with laughter. 😂

Most of all, thank you for cheering us on from the wings and inspiring a new chorus of vocalists within our company who have taken a page from your legendary playbook. You are and always will be Moore than enough! ❤️🤍🖤

In the grand theatre of life, many a hopeful actor enters the stage dreaming only of the spotlight, desperate to be the glittering star of the show. Yet, true theatrical magic is often found in the courage to embrace the unconventional. While some might squeamishly shy away from playing a donkey, a cat, or heaven forbid a RAT, our next honoree leaped into the whiskers and tails with absolute relish!🐭

The incomparable Michael “Rat” Augustine is a true titan of the Malick Folk Performing Company. He has never needed the title of "star" to illuminate our stage, because his performance itself became the beacon. By treating every role as a masterpiece, he has redefined what it means to be a performer, inspiring generations of our members to understand that true greatness lies not in the size of the role, but in the depth of the passion brought into it.👑

Michael first walked through the doors of the MFPC at 26 years old, beginning a lifelong love affair with our company. Whenever our visionary founder, Fuller, called upon him to manifest the wildest figments of the imagination, Michael’s vocabulary simply lacked the word "no."💯

No character was too daunting, no challenge too great. From a menacing devil to a formidable "bad john," he approached every role with fierce dedication, executing each performance at the highest level of excellence and leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of our patrons. Now, 44 magnificent years later, this pillar is still the ultimate team player, ready to show up, step up, and steal the show whenever duty calls.💖

Among his cherished memories, like watching our premier limboist, Sonny Salina, command the Spektakula Forum, the ultimate memory that still brings goosebumps, and a roar of laughter dates back to the 1981 MFPC production entitled “Johnny Grotto.” Michael’s character was tasked with a dramatic stretcher rescue. With utmost care, he loaded the "injured" actor onto the stretcher, turned around, grabbed the handrails, and sped off at high velocity, totally oblivious to the fact that the stretcher was broken, and the poor patient had been left flat on the stage floor! The audience didn’t just laugh; they roared. It takes a true genius to turn a medical emergency into a comedic masterpiece!😂

The wealth of experience Michael has gifted to MFPC is immeasurable. As he looks to the future, his deepest wish is for our company to safeguard the tight-knit, family-oriented spirit that defines us. He envisions MFPC becoming the premier performing arts company in the region, propelled by a new generation that honours and remembers the sacrifices of the pillars who paved the way.🇹🇹

To those who wish to replicate his incredible longevity and enduring passion, Michael offers a powerful reminder from our own mission statement: “We commit ourselves to pursue excellence…”🙏🏽

Michael, thank you. Thank you for your fierce individuality, for giving the entirety of your heart to this company both on and off the stage, and for shaping the very soul of MFPC. Keep that wonderful, gleaming smile shining bright, because tonight, the entire company applauds YOU! ❤️🤍🖤

Today, we honor yet another true pillar of our legacy, a natural-born leader, a fierce defender of our institution, and a champion for justice. His unwavering voice has shielded and elevated MFPC, ensuring our indigenous folk culture remains a vibrant, living force. We speak of none other than the debonair and distinguished Leon Roach.👑

Leon crossed the threshold of MFPC at the age of 22. Captured by the profound spirit of camaraderie and love within the company, he chose to plant his roots here. What followed was forty years of service defined by distinction and invaluable contribution. Leon is a master of the craft, a rare artisan who can drum, act, dance and sing, possessing a rich, resonant bass voice that has captivated audiences for generations.🤩

Leon has been a cornerstone of this family for 40 magnificent years. Remarkably, time has dared not touch him. The only difference between the Leon of yesteryear and the Leon of today is an even deeper reservoir of commitment, passion, and tireless dedication. He hasn’t aged; he has simply matured like a fine, cultural wine.🍷

His innate leadership naturally steered him to the role of Chairman in previous years, a tenure during which he championed monumental projects that remain the milestones of our pride. Yet, his leadership wasn't just about the art; it was about the heart. By fiercely championing anti-violence, Leon made us deeply conscious of our roles both as performers on the stage and as protectors of one another behind the scenes.💖

Among his many contributions, Leon’s artistry helped breathe life into our critically acclaimed production, “Wine of Astonishment”, a masterpiece that holds a sacred place in his heart and in the archives of our history. Today, as he watches MFPC flourish, his gratitude is matched only by the steady encouragement he offers us at every step of our journey.🙏🏽

Leon’s vision for MFPC is grand and enduring: for this company to stand as the ultimate ambassador and definitive leader in preserving Trinidad and Tobago’s folk culture. He passes this torch to the younger generations, calling upon them to build upon the foundations laid by the pillars who toiled before them. His enduring wisdom reminds us that by putting the company first, we ensure its flame burns brightly for generations to come.🇹🇹

Thank you, Leon, for lending us your immense talent, your sophisticated leadership, your suave grace, and your profound love. You believed in us when the curtains rose, and you believe in us still. We bow to you, our pillar, our rock, our Roach!❤️🤍🖤

Atten-Hut!

Present arms for a true titan of the stage and the soul! Before you stands a gentle giant, whose shield has fiercely guarded the honor of the MFPC realm for over three decades. Behind our most prolific performances, and woven deeply into the very tapestry of our history, lies the quiet, unwavering loyalty of this monumental man, Eric Moore.👑

Eric Moore marched into MFPC at the tender age of 28, and for 35 wonderful years, he has been our bedrock. After witnessing the magic of our tours, shows, and major national performances, he knew he had found his home. Now, 35 years later, he is still riding with us!🇹🇹🤩

Having served in the military, Eric gracefully marched his elite discipline right onto our stage. While the world securely knows him as our unflappable, rock-solid drummer, Eric is a true theatrical chameleon. He has never feared stepping out of his comfort zone, proving time and again that he isn't just a master of the drums, he’s a master of all trades.💯

He’s also the reason we keep moving! We thank Eric for constantly inspiring us to prioritize our health. For every Zumba step and aerobics class we’ve endured, Eric has been the drill sergeant of delight, ensuring we stay active, healthy, and perpetually "at attention." His unwavering loyalty isn't just our cornerstone; it's our cardio!😁

When asked to recall his treasured milestone, he fondly remembers our iconic production, "Between a Rock and a Hard Place." For Eric, the electric energy and the monumental vibes of that show are permanently etched into his memory, which is fitting, because for the rest of us, Eric is our rock!🔥🪨

Thank you, Eric, for the rhythm, the resilience, and the royalty you bring to our family. Never stop marching to the beat of your own spectacular drum, and thank you for always being our steady anchor. We salute you!❤️🤍🖤

There are those whose contributions are made quietly, yet their impact echoes across generations. For decades, the mere presence of a steady, consistent face provided the youth of our company with a profound sense of assurance, a living reminder that they would never be given up on. That steadfast anchor is none other than one of our founding members, musical director, MENtor, and treasured friend, Sean Lewis.👑

Sean’s journey began in 1979 when he was invited by our visionary, Norval Fullerton, to join the collective. He joined along with other members of the Coribis North Diego Martin Group, the same year the ensemble participated in the Prime Minister’s Best Village Trophy Competition (PMBVTC). Serving as the Musical Director for both groups, Sean held the distinct honor of guiding us through our monumental first PMBVTC in 1980.🤩

Sean’s influence shaped not just our sound, but our very structure. Over his illustrious tenure, he wore many hats with equal grace and stewardship. He demonstrated a steadfast commitment to the company’s longevity by providing essential leadership as Financial Comptroller on the Executive Board. He played a pivotal role in establishing MFPC’s Junior Company, ensuring our cultural legacy would be passed down to the next generation.💫

Under his musical leadership and collaboration, MFPC achieved legendary status. Sean championed an era of excellence that saw the company capture the PMBVTC championship title and the Best Music category on multiple occasions, starting with our historic 1983 victory. He further elevated our standard of excellence at the National Music Festival at Queen’s Hall, securing top honors in Port of Spain alongside numerous notable performances.💥

Sean’s cherished memories with MFPC are moments of pure magic and historic achievement. He shared his memory of 1980, when they captured the Best National Anthem title in their legendary debut year. Another memory was in 2009, when MFPC ascended to the global stage, delivering a powerhouse performance at the Hyatt Regency for the Fifth Summit of the Americas (CHOGM). He said that performing in front of world leaders, including U.S. President Barack Obama, was the moment he felt MFPC’s legacy was permanently etched into the global spotlight. 🇹🇹

Sean, your steadfast commitment has been our anchor. For every quiet sacrifice, every loud victory, and for every young mind mentored, we thank you. We are endlessly grateful for the foundation you built, the music you gifted us, and the legacy that will continue to inspire MFPC for generations to come.❤️🤍🖤

On this gorgeous Sunday, let us open our books to the Gospel of Dance, where, lo and behold, the very first verse reads: “And then, there was Michael Lucien.”👑

For over four decades, Michael hasn’t just danced across the landscape of Trinidad and Tobago; he has gracefully hijacked our collective heartbeat. From the glittering world stage to the quietest underserved communities, Michael has chasséed, leaped and pique-turned his way straight into the collective chambers of our hearts. 💖

Michael’s creativity is unmatched; he is a living encyclopedia of movement across every dance genre. Just when you think you’ve mastered a style, he reveals an entirely new layer of depth. He puts the “MEN” in "Mentor," by serving as the foundational DNA for some of T&T’s most noteworthy choreographers. Though his breathtaking poise and artistry are rare treasures, his spirit remains lighthearted; he is a natural comedian who flourishes in spaces filled with laughter and love.🤩

The legend tells us that Michael danced his way into MFPC at the tender age of 29. He has now been a cornerstone of our family for a glorious 43 years. He was brought to us from South Trinidad by none other than Mrs. Joyce Wong Sang, a true stalwart of the Prime Minister’s Best Village Trophy Competition who knew excellence when she saw it. He is now a lifelong guardian of T&T folk dance and is devoted to keeping the twin-island republic's traditional movements alive for future generations.😎

Emerging from an era defined by live drums and traditional musical accompaniment, Michael faced the ultimate test when tasked with choreographing David Rudder’s iconic record "Ganges and the Nile." Naturally, he shattered the glass ceiling of what popular dance could be. To heal a politically divided landscape, he joined forces with our sister company, The Shiv Shakti Dance Company CMT, and its iconic director, Michael Salickram. Together, the two Michaels created a masterpiece that was performed at every major event imaginable—locally, regionally, and internationally.🇹🇹

He didn't just bring steps; he brought a revolution of movement that elevated everything around it. Because of the depth his choreography added to our storytelling, MFPC went on to conquer the holy trinity of Best Village: Music, Dance, and Drama. Among his proudest achievements is his instrumental work on MFPC’s noteworthy production, “OBEAH”, a spectacular success that Michael proudly notes is cemented in his memory forever. 🙌🏽

His vision for the future isn't about looking backward, but passing the torch. He wants the younger generation to dive deep into our rich folk traditions, take those sacred roots, and choreograph their own truths. Because, in Michael’s own words, “it is their voice that will take us forward.”🙏🏽

Thank you, Michael, for teaching us how to dance, how to laugh, and how to carry the soul of Trinidad and Tobago in our steps. Your legacy isn't just secure—it's still moving!❤️🤍🖤

🎵“Children come go to Zion with me. Children come go to Zion with me. Zion Bells are ringing, happy children are singing, children come go to Zion with me.”🎵🔔

As we cruise beautifully into Father’s Day, we’re continuing our sacred journey of honoring our "Stalwarts of Culture: Pillars of Malick." 💖

Today, we honor and give due respect to our beloved chantuell! The man who lifts our weary spirits, the man with a voice vibrant enough to wake up the ancestors, and an acting prowess so heavy it brings our history right to life! We are talking about a true cornerstone of the Malick Folk Performing Company. We’re talking about our MENtor Kenneth Alexis.👑

Now, let’s take it back. Ken walked through Malick’s doors at 22 years old. Fast forward through the rhythms of time, and he’s been anchoring this company for 45 glorious years! Ken shared that his anchor dropped in Malick for good when he recalled a memory from around 1983. It was one of our most popular productions, entitled “Dance Beryl Dance.” To him, this production was dripping in sweet, sweet Calypso, and for a man who loves Calypso down to his bones, Ken took one look around the company and knew that this was home.⚓️

Ken has many goose-bump-inducing memories that would make our souls beam with pride. He shared one of the performances in Guadeloupe for FESTAC, where the Barbados National Dance Company caught a glimpse of Malick’s pre-show rehearsal. The Barbadian Director took one look at the Trini fire, shook his head, and said: “Man, it have no way Barbados going on stage after Trinidad and Tobago!” Talk about leaving them speechless before the curtain even pull!😂😁

Through sheer discipline, focus, and a soul completely immersed in our heritage, Ken hasn't just performed—he has shaped the very conscience of Malick. He has declared himself a “Malickian” for life. As a staple drummer who knows the power of a proper rhythm, he’s thrilled for what our future holds. Watching lead captains like Xavier and Kempes working miracles with the young, upcoming drummers has his heart full. 💓

He challenges us to reignite that old-school fire—the kind of cultural heat that used to put a healthy, respectful fear into the hearts of our competitors and admirers alike! His blueprint for the youth who want that kind of longevity and passion is simple: commitment, discipline, and an unapologetic, fiercely protective love for the culture of Trinidad and Tobago.🇹🇹😎

Thank you, Ken. Thank you for the love, the undeniable vibes, the voice, and the timeless talent. You are royalty in our house! ❤️🤍🖤
