Rotary District 7030 Governor Visits YTRC Vulnerable Youth Project

Rotary District 7030 Governor Soraya Warner-Gustave recently visited the Youth Transformation and Rehabilitation Centre, where the Rotary Club of St. Augustine is supporting youth rehabilitation and reintegration through the refurbishment of the Prosperity Dormitory.

The project, valued at approximately TT$135,000, will help restore a dedicated space for reflection, planning, confidence-building, and preparation for life beyond the institution.

Inspired by stories of transformation such as Nicholas Khan’s journey from incarceration to scholarship, entrepreneurship, and youth mentorship, this project reflects Rotary’s commitment to creating opportunities for vulnerable youth and strengthening pathways back into family, community, education, and
productive life.

Soraya Warner-Gustave, Rotary District 7030 Governor Visits YTRC Project as Rotary Club of St. Augustine Champions Youth Rehabilitation: From Incarceration to Inspiration

The Rotary Club of St. Augustine is supporting youth rehabilitation and reintegration through the refurbishment of the Prosperity Dormitory at the Youth Transformation and Rehabilitation Centre (YTRC).

Formerly used as a Pre-Release Room, the space once helped young men nearing the end of their rehabilitation programme prepare for life beyond the institution. Closed after 2020 and later used for storage, the room is now being restored to provide a dedicated environment for reflection, planning, confidence-building, and preparation for return to family, community, education, and productive life.

Valued at approximately TT$135,000, the project forms part of the Club’s wider commitment to vulnerable youth, personal development, and community reintegration. It is also supported by the inspiring story of Nicholas Khan, a former inmate whose journey from incarceration to scholarship, entrepreneurship, and youth mentorship reflects the transformation the project seeks to encourage. His story is featured in the video “From Incarceration to Inspiration”: https://youtu.be/XXWdODJFnKY

The site was recently visited by Soraya Warner-Gustave, District Governor of Rotary District 7030, who toured the facility and recognised the value of collaborative, community-driven projects that support youth rehabilitation and reintegration.

“This project is about more than refurbishing a room. It is about restoring a space of possibility,” said Melissa Senhouse-Cox, President of the Rotary Club of St. Augustine.

The project has received support from Dean’s Hardware, General Electrical and Plumbing Supplies Ltd, Rite Buy Hardware Ltd., Moosai Hardware Limited, Community Conflict Resolution Centre (TTPS), Ferguson Premium Electrical Services, Color Shop 2004 Limited, and members of the Rotary Club of St. Augustine.
