Another Day on the Ground Engaging The Community

The Inter‑Agency Task Force Hearts and Minds Programme proudly continues its commitment to positive community outreach as the team came out today to support the Success–Laventille Champions League, a major community partnership hosted by Councillor Adanna Griffith‑Gordon.

Launched on May 23rd, 2026, the Success–Laventille Champions League has quickly become one of the most exciting and unifying sporting events in Laventille. With 15 teams representing communities across the district, the tournament provides a powerful platform for youth engagement, discipline, mentorship, and healthy competition. It stands as a shining example of how structured sport can strengthen community bonds and create opportunities for young people.

Today’s Quarter Finals bring the energy and excitement to another level with two thrilling matchups:

• LRCC vs Blanco Ballers
• Young Stars vs Ballers FC

Adding to the vibrant atmosphere is none other than Laventille’s most famous nuts man, Andy — better known as “YEP”. A true community icon, YEP’s presence brings a familiar warmth and authenticity to the event, reminding everyone that football in Laventille is more than a sport — it’s culture, community, and connection.

The Hearts and Minds Programme is honoured to support this initiative, reinforcing its mission to build trust, foster unity, and encourage positive youth development. Through partnerships like this, the Programme continues to champion the belief that sport is one of the most effective tools for empowerment, outreach, and community transformation.

The team will also be present for the Semi Finals and Finals, standing alongside the organisers, athletes, supporters, as we celebrate local talent and invest in the future of our youth.

Fathers Day Treat, Live Love Laugh Nursing Home

Officers of the Inter Agency Task Force Hearts and Minds Programme, led by Woman Police Sergeant Marcano Phillip, partnered with the Live Love Laugh Nursing Home in Arouca to host a special Father’s Day treat for the residents.

Although the occasion centred on Father’s Day, the team ensured that both men and women at the home received care and attention. Officers provided hair‑grooming services to all residents. The gesture brought comfort, dignity, and companionship to everyone who participated.

Special thanks are extended to Police Constable Hercules of the Inter Agency Task Force, who generously volunteered his talent to support this act of service and spread joy among the residents.

We also proudly recognize 13‑year‑old Akeem Ellis, who joined the team for this outreach effort. His willingness to serve at such a young age reflects the positive values we continue to encourage within our nation’s youth.

This collaboration demonstrates the ongoing commitment of the Hearts and Minds Programme to uplift communities, strengthen relationships, and promote meaningful acts of kindness across Trinidad and Tobago.

The Progressive Youths Creating Change (PYCC), led by Police Constable Mc Pherson and Assistant Leader Woman Police Constable Mottley‑Allsop, continues to advance its mission of youth empowerment under the Inter‑Agency Task Force (IATF) Hearts and Minds Programme.

PYCC members are currently participating in an 11‑week Empowerment and Development Programme hosted at the Highlanders Steel Orchestra Pan Yard, Eastern Main Road, Laventille. The programme is facilitated by Youth for Change TT, an organisation dedicated to youth advocacy and development. Participants are being trained in entrepreneurship, financial literacy, conflict prevention, business planning, team dynamics, marketing, pitch development, and problem‑solving.

Youth for Change TT’s team—Project Manager Giovanni Toussaint, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer Michael Clarke, and Communications and Stakeholder Relations Officer Jehoshua Williams—continues to deliver impactful sessions. Today’s session, led by Giovanni Toussaint, focused on understanding marketing, developing personal and business marketing messages, exploring key marketing terms, and creating a marketing message for a product.

This initiative is sponsored by the U.S. Embassy, with support from the Inter‑Agency Task Force Hearts and Minds Programme, The Rose Foundation and the Highlanders Steel Orchestra.

Retired Police Inspector Charles remains a respected and influential figure within the Inter‑Agency Task Force Hearts and Minds Programme, and his presence at the recent Beetham Vibrations Steel Orchestra Bingo Fundraiser added important historical context to the event.

As one of the pioneering members of the Hearts and Minds Programme, Inspector Charles helped shape its early direction and laid the groundwork for many of the community‑focused initiatives that continue today. His leadership was instrumental in strengthening relationships between law enforcement and communities, particularly through youth engagement, mentorship, and positive outreach.

One of his most significant contributions was helping establish the partnership between the Hearts and Minds Programme and the Rotary Club of Central Port of Spain. This collaboration led to the creation of the Beetham Vibrations Steel Orchestra—now a thriving musical and developmental space for young people at the Beetham Gardens Community Centre.

Inspector Charles’ continued support reflects his long‑standing commitment to community empowerment and the vision he helped set in motion. His legacy is evident in the growth of the programme, the success of the orchestra, and the many young lives positively impacted over the years.

We extend our sincere thanks to Retired Inspector Charles for his foundational work, his dedication to service, and his lasting contribution to the Hearts and Minds Programme and the Beetham Vibrations Steel Orchestra.

The Inter Agency Task Force (IATF) Police Youth Club, led by Woman Police Constable Wickham‑Smith, in partnership with the National Library and Information System Authority (NALIS), is currently hosting a two‑week Youth Development and Fun Activities Camp at the Joint Community Services Center (JCSC) Compound in Beetham Gardens.

This initiative forms part of the IATF’s ongoing commitment to community engagement, youth empowerment, and positive social development within the Beetham community. Through structured, interactive programming, the camp provides a safe, supportive environment where young participants can build confidence, strengthen life skills, and explore their creativity.

Throughout the two weeks, attendees have been actively involved in a range of enriching activities, including group sessions, mentorship, art and craft, gaming, and educational workshops. Each activity is designed to promote personal growth, teamwork, and both physical and mental wellness.

One of today’s featured sessions focused on mathematics and measurement, facilitated by Police Constable Ramjattan. The session blended learning with hands‑on engagement, helping participants develop practical numeracy skills while reinforcing the importance of education in everyday life.

This collaborative effort between the IATF and NALIS continues to demonstrate how meaningful partnerships can create positive opportunities for young people and strengthen community resilience.

Mr. Subero,
Your impact on the Inter Agency Task Force is woven into its very foundation. You have stood as a pillar, a stalwart, and a guiding force in shaping the framework and culture that so many officers now rely on.
Beyond your official duties, you have been a mentor, a leader, and a father figure to countless individuals — not only within the IATF, but in every space where your leadership has been felt. The lessons you’ve shared, the discipline you’ve instilled, and the example you’ve set continue to influence those who had the privilege to work alongside you.
Today, we celebrate not just your birthday, but the legacy of a man whose dedication, humility, and strength have left a lasting mark on all of us.
We wish you a truly happy birthday, filled with the same respect and appreciation you have shown throughout your years of service.
