John E. Sabga Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer

John E. Sabga Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer We aim to change the deadly statistics associated with Pancreatic Cancer and raise awareness in T&T

The J.E.S foundation started in Trinidad and Tobago and hopes to expand globally with a primary focus in accelerating the race for an early detection test for Pancreatic Cancer and ultimately, a cure for this disease. The Foundation honors John Sabga, who died at the age of 56 in January 2017, after a valiant and hard fought 10-month battle with pancreatic cancer. We, his family, friends and colle

agues choose to honor his memory and bravery by forging forward on a relentless journey to help in the global fight, by raising funds for a specific research study that will aid in finding answers to eradicate this devastating disease. The J.E.S foundation will also focus in the area of pancreatic cancer education and support in Trinidad and Tobago in an effort to wage hope for those suffering from this disease.

REVOLUTION MEDICINES new drug DARAXONRASIB has shown “unprecedented” results in the treatment of pancreatic cancer by targeting the KRAS gene that was notoriously thought of as “undruggable”. Patients are seeing major shrinkage of their tumors and life expectancy doubled . The long scientific journey that led to the drug is a triumph of both public and private research funding, succeeding only after decades of false starts and dashed hopes. Research remains the key to improving the lives of our loved ones and future generations and we thank all of our donors for their contributions that have allowed this foundation to donate $800,000USD thus far to research

Failing to brush and floss teeth regularly—a common "dirty habit" of poor oral hygiene—can triple the risk of developing pancreatic cancer. Harmful bacteria and fungi from the mouth, often linked to periodontal disease, can travel via saliva to the pancreas, significantly increasing risk. Researchers at the NYU School of Medicine found that periodontal pathogens and various oral fungi can migrate from the mouth to the pancreas, creating a, dangerous, cancer-promoting environment..Maintaining good oral hygiene, including regular brushing and flossing, is a critical, proactive measure to reduce this risk, according to insights published in JAMA Oncology.

Cachexia …Very Informative information

Tumor-induced weight loss, also known as cancer cachexia, is a complex problem. It affects the way the body uses calories and protein. Cancer cachexia can cause the body to burn more calories than usual, break down muscle protein and decrease appetite. If a person is consuming regular meals and snacks but is losing weight, they may be experiencing cancer cachexia.

Early Recognition of symptoms can save lives 🥲

Wu-Tang Clan co-founder Oliver ‘Power’ Grant died February 23 from pancreatic cancer. He was 55. His family shared that he died after a courageous and hard fought battle with the disease. Grant was an early producer of the hip-hop collective Wu-Tang Clan and headed the successful Wu Wear fashion line. Last year there were approximately 67,440 diagnoses of pancreatic cancer. The 5-year survival rate is 13.3% according to the National Cancer Institute. Risk factors include smoking, obesity, diabetes, environmental factors, and chronic pancreatitis. Early warning symptoms include jaundice, weight loss for no reason, severe pain in the middle of the stomach and lower back, and fatigue. Know the symptoms. Catching the disease early before it has spread allows more options in terms of treatments. Our thoughts, prayers, and support are with Oliver Grant’s family and friends, and all those impacted by this relentless disease.
