Every year, leatherback turtles come ashore on select beaches to nest.

It is one of the most significant wildlife events in the region, with these turtles travelling long distances across the Atlantic to return to the same beaches where they were born.

Leatherbacks are the largest of all sea turtles and play an important role in marine ecosystems. Their nesting sites in Trinidad are critical to their survival as a species.

We’ve highlighted five key facts about leatherback turtles and why they matter to Trinidad’s natural heritage. Have you ever witnessed a nesting or hatching season in Trinidad? What's on your top five moments?

This World Ocean Day, Atlantic is proud of our continued partnership with Turtle Village Trust in support of marine conservation and the protection of Trinidad and Tobago’s natural heritage.

Through this partnership, we continue to promote greater awareness of the importance of protecting our oceans, coastal ecosystems and marine life, including the sea turtles that return to our shores each year.
Together, we are reminded that protecting what we sea begins with shared responsibility, purposeful action and care for the environment we all depend on.
